Mine is brand new and after a month it randomly looks right or left for a second. This is a hardware issue. I’ve noticed it usually does it when it rumbles.

For you who don’t know how stick drift happens, it happens because the joystick uses a sort of rubbing technique to sense and what happens when you rub, friction and over time it destroy the sensors creating stick drift

It all has to do with the Potentiometer that controller the analog joystick, which needs to be cleaned or replaced by opening up the controller.

Using the hidden button requires you hold your controller in the position you play it as. No one ever mentions that.

Nice! I stepped on my kids' PS5 controller like 4 months ago and just dealt with the stick drift. Then this guy says, "Poke the hole under here" to fix it. lol I paper clip poke the hole and voila! No stick drift! Thank you sir for reading the controller manual.

Can’t believe this is such a common issue. My brand new ps5 cont drifted left the day I took it out of the box 😞

Stick drift is due to the wearing off of the potentiometer disc inside the analog stick module. The only way to fix this is to replace the potentiometer disc, or replace the whole analog stick module. But movements may or may not be 100% accurate due to the x and y axis calibration embedded within the ROM chip of the controller not aligning with the new analog module/potentiometer disc.
