A man with a college degree is struggling to get any kind of decent paying job. He even applied at a local restaurant and after giving him the run around for months, they finally offered him a job - making $8.50 an hour.

If you are shortstaffed, you don't get to be picky. Have they never heard of "training"?

Every place wants experience and pays minimum wage. There should be a law in place that if you are asking for experience you are required to pay a certain percentage above minimum wage for each year you require. Just to stop idiots from requiring experience for a minimum wage job or a stupid job that is based on tips.

Keep in mind also that if it's a fine dining high-end steakhouse, they'll mostly only hire servers with years of experience as a server. I'm sure he wouldn't have any problem finding a serving job at a big restraunt chain. Something like a Chili's or a Buffalo Wild Wings. Places like that, you can still pull in 900$+ a week if they're busy enough and you work full time.

I can’t find a job with my degree, can’t pay for my bills with my current part time job, can’t get a second part time because of my degree, can’t finish my post grad because I don’t have money to pay for it. I’m just screwed!!

"nobody wants to work anymore." I've literally applied to every entree level job available, called multiple times just trying to at least get an interview. I have experience in retail, cooking, and serving jobs. But I couldn't even get a call back. So I gave up, just relied on my modest paycheck from part-time caring for my grandma, until Walmart started their delivery program, and now I do that while also still caring for my grandma. Every once and awhile I have a lady that has me house+ dog sit for her and its honestly like a mini vacation. (For any who might be worried about my grandma when I'm doing my side hustles, My mom, aunt, and a nurse come in and help as well. So she's never without someone nearby.)

Try living in Kansas and Georgia where server federal minimum wage is $2.25-2.30 and hour and after taxes you make $0.00 an hour and solely rely on tips for your income. I worked for years like this before the pandemic. Can't imagine how hard it is to get let alone keep a serving position after the pandemic with the same wages.

Yeah no this is completely misleading. That’s like getting a bachelor degree and wondering why you’re not a director as your first job. 99% of servers do not jump into fine dining as their first gig. Most fine dining servers make well over 80k a year because it’s extremely difficult. If he walked into a chilis or something similar he probably would have gotten the job on the spot.

Damn it’s like college isn’t worth it and getting a union job was what’s up. Plumbers electricians carpenters sheet metal workers etc

I was unemployed for 2 months after I was let go. It took WAAYY too long to get hired anyway! I applied to many different places and only got 2 interviews the whole 2 months! Luckily I found something I didn’t know I’d be passionate about, but damn it was hard to get hired. People want to work, company’s just don’t want to hire sufficient staff.

Its not that positions are not filled. The way the country claims how many jobs are not filled is by counting the job listings. However, since most fo them are just scare tactics and are not really hiring we have no odea what amount of jobs are actually looking and which are not real

At some point, some businesses have to realize their place in the world. Cooking is a trade, train up the people who are interested. Secondly if youre a fast food restaurant, you are entry-level. Stop looking for the best of the best when you're scraping the bottom of the barrel
