The RAAF have the same school for Fighter Combat Instructor. Very tough training and not all make it. I remember when at the unit we had a US Marine and a Canadian FCI on exchange. But before they could train experienced fighter pilots, they needed to completed the RAAF course. They both said it was the hardest course they have ever completed.

The hornet and the viper actually came from the same fighter program. The USAF held the Light Weight Fighter Program (LWF program), to have the next generation of fighter jets, and out of that program came two contenders the YF-16 (F-16’s predecessor) and the YF-17 (F/A-18’s predecessor) and at the end of that program the YF-16 won paving the way for the F-16 fighting falcon/viper. But after the program had ended the navy took a look at the YF-17 and decided that it was perfect for carrier operations and the navy was looking for their next fighter as well just like the USAF. With the YF-17’s dual engines and ability to be multirole it was the perfect opportunity for the navies new carrier based fighter. Thus they adopted the YF-17 and that led to the legacy F/A-18 Hornet which of course led to the F/A-18 super hornet that we know and love today. This is why ally of ppl often refer to the super hornet as the “naval F-16” bc they are very similar aircrafts as they came from the exact same fighter program.

To be a fighter pilot you would need the following:
1- physically fit (born fit as well).
2- mentally fit (smart)
3- emotionally fit (emotional control)
4- possess leadership and dedication accompanied with patience.
5- sacrifice a lot of your lifetime.

Kim from N Korea is an exception to this he became a top Pilot just from his Genetics. They say he flew his first Jet at the young age of 5.
