I am suffering from the trauma. I can not be phony with folks... I have dealt with all of the above...I appreciate you pushing us to look at office politics in a different perspective. 😊

I genuinely resent that this is the way that things are done and accomplished and that merit and skill are undervalued beneath games, superficial relationships, and likability, but I’m grateful for your take and it makes me feel a lot better about having to deal with this nonsense just to make a living. It’s a necessary evil; even when you’re an expert, you’ll be working with those that aren’t but are still politicking for social reasons (brown nosing). This is definitely a much harder route, but I am seeing it pay off, so I’ll stay the course.

The negative side happens A LOT and I’ve experienced it at literally every job I’ve ever had. I’m honestly just now experiencing bits and pieces of the good side but the bad is still happening along with it and it’s exhausting and the reality is that it never stops. The bad side is absolutely abusive and traumatic and it needs to be addressed. The workplace is an extremely toxic place and being an expert doesn’t exempt you from it.

I took notes on this. So true and helpful. In my culture, I was also told that hard work pays off and keep your head down but I’ve learned that it’s the people who are not even qualified who are good at the politics. I also side eye the suck ups and get sick of it. I want to get into the good side of politics without compromising myself, like the unnecessary games. I can still be strategic without looking cheap haha Thank you for this!

Whew! This is such solid advice! I was that hard worker... it only gets you loaded with more work and more stress, and you'll resent your job and the bosses. Just left a toxic work environment where I was targeted by several groups and I'm ready to start fresh with lots of new insights and lessons learned! I made a few genuine friends at my old organisation that I still keep in touch with. These are the people that advocate for you when you aren't in the room and shut down bad gossip about you. Having these people in your corner is so vital! It can be so hard to tell who is genuine and who isn't so always keep it light and positive, and always flip gossip to positive behaviours. Easier said than done. Practice makes perfect! ❤

Thank you for the wake-up call! I really needed to hear this. You’re absolutely right. People don’t recognize hard work…but positioning oneself as an expert in my industry so that I can get what I want out of all the hard work I’ve put in. I so truly appreciate this. I know how to proceed moving forward.

Amen! God sent me to find your channel! The good Lord is using your voice to help those workers who are fall into bad office politics. You're right it's time to let go of the idea "I'm not playing office politics, and be quiet, heads down and work quietly".

Just subscribed! ❤️‍🔥 Love your perspective and advice. As a black women in the early stages of my law career this was very insightful. I too had that mentality of simply going in to work, doing my job and going home. Over the past few years I’ve quickly learnt that is simply not true.

I get what you are saying but it’s very different for women in the workplace vs men. I’ve tried a lot of these things and most backfired. Even after advice from colleagues on how to approach things. I was seen as presumptuous and rude. To the point a superintendent and cfo made a 100 page write up on me for disciplinary action. I literally just gave feedback and clarity on issues at the district site. That’s gaslighting to the T. They ignored emails they avoided conversations that would lead to action. A lot of what you said I did and still they wanted things done their way which wasn’t right. I ultimately had to leave. It’s not easy to play a game to win when the rules keep getting changed as you play to favor the other people.
