Unless it is an openly hostile and psychologically destructive environment, do not leave the organization when things get tough. Do not make it easy for people to edge you away from the centre of power. Leaving makes it far too easy for your competitors. No matter how bad things seem, every day is a new day to build new alliances and partnerships. Become a brand ambassador for your department, help other colleagues with their stuff, and be ok with letting them taking credit for it. Being liked in the office and giving colleagues small gifts, books, chocolates, goes a very, very long way. Practice active and deep listening, see people, and recognise them. Always, always make friends with the executive assistants, operations personnel, and HR people. Be magnanimous. Don't become a cynic. Fight against becoming one, no amount of money is worth it. You will ruin your relationships and family life if you become a corporate cynic. No career is worth that. There is power in generosity and kindness. Hold onto that power.

I love your videos, Mike. They do remind me that, in office life, "only the paranoid survive"...

"You need to make friends."

Well, Mike, we're already setting me up for failure.

I was in a super toxic environment. When I tried to call the gossip BS, it was worse for me because most of the time the manger encouraged gossiping. So I left that place and now I work in a much better company ☺️

“ The ones who don’t know how to play hate the game” …. So true. You definitely have to learn how to play… I’ve learned a lot recently and it’s empowering. Now my eyes are more open and I look at things, handle things, other people and myself differently.

You need to ask your viewers to share their best politics stories so all of us can learn and profit from the shared wisdom.

Lol wut. Everyone that stepped on me got promoted big time. Nowadays they're high-level managers or CEOs. In fact companies are looking for the meanest people possible to promote.

I wish this video was available in my younger years out of college. It took me a long time to learn the office politics "game". I thought that putting my head down and doing my job exceptionally well was all I needed to rise through the ranks. Some people may call it "ass kissing" but its really not (maybe a little). Office politics is a craft. Emotional intelligence is key!

That's really guides people including me need now. I've been mapping this videos down for practicing.
The working culture I'm working in just kinda negative. I've been striving to standup by myself, stay away from all those office politics that are so much noisy and making troubles among company. I also need this to prepare myself to a new team with plan of leaving jobs.

Thank you so much Mr Mike.

I work in the non-profit sector with GREAT People! However, people with great hearts & passion are not always the best in business. I've always been fearful to implement "winning" human strategies when it comes to my non-profit teams. Thanks, Mike, you've approached this from a "WE WIN" not an "I WIN" GREAT STUFF! Looking forward to implementing!

Once I learnt to be a part of a team I stopped hating office politics. Now I love it

The organizational chart has nothing to do with the politics...TOO TRUE. Heck in most departments it's the admins/secretaries who have the most sway,

Could you do a remote version of this. It's so much more challenging
