What if I told you there is a theory you can use to predict their actions and choose for best path to make sure you set yourself up to win corporate politics? This theory exists, it's called Game Theory. According to game theory anytime you have two players, you have yourself a game. hello: i just started watching your videos, THIS WEEK. i am reaching out to you just to say thankyou. I am not new to the work place, however, I am new to the corporate industry. I really appreciate my new career (this is my second time around). The industry I work in is naturally toxic. I learned this from the people who have been in the industry for 20+ years. I am old enough to have grandchildren but honestly, I used to be the toxic person in my old career. I am in a new place in my life and my career. I did not realize I was such a problem. Now that I part of the solution, I am now learning to properly deal with the old Me!!!

The only issue I see here is this approach assumes a promotion is my main goal. For me, money and status are distant goals - what I want is to be left alone to solve problems. I want to be the mad scientist that sequesters themselves away to work on a problem, build a solution, and watch others use that solution to accomplish their goals. That goal doesn't appeal to too many people, so I'm kind of unsure the best way to play that game.

Hey good morning, thank you for sharing. I came across your channel at the beginning of this month when finally (and too late), I realized I was losing by choosing to ignore office politics. My position was in pharma as a senior engineer and I've worked in the industry almost 20years. Sometimes it is still very sensitive for me to watch the videos on these subjects but I am healing slowly.

Jennifer I'd love to write you a letter or share my story with you on Linked In because I'm so confused from the gaslighting, ignoring my instincts, and backstabbing from the "work family." I'm still confused what exactly happened, why, and don't want to rush into something without having a better toolbox.

Ultimately staying positive, the exit strategy (even if hyperbolically awkward) was what needed to happen and I am so grateful not to be working there anymore !

You should do a video analyzing some examples of workplace politics in movies. Maybe analyze a scene to show an example of what you talk about. One movie I’d like you to examine would be Nate Fick from Generation Kill. Nate is a military officer who succeeds at surviving workplace politics during the invasion of Iraq (he’s actually based in a real life person from the book of the same name). The series is in HBO.

This analysis presumes that both sides are aware of playing dirty/clean politics and outcomes are fair. In many cases when the opposing party plays dirty politics they could destroy your reputation with lies! In this case you played fair AND lost your reputation and this happens all the time! Not to mention a plethora of other reasons why the powers that be can be biased to begin with before a decision was made: sexism, racism, nepotism, etc.

All the top managers are female an tends to ignore your contribuition and thing you are a "bad kid" just because you want to focus in client needs istead of internal policies...
