That’s a great jig and is simple to make. You are always looking for ways to uncomplicate methods and that is very much appreciated! Thanks for keeping us informed!

I made this today and it worked great. The tape is a great idea for a snug fit. I used a marking knife to mark the edges and it resulted in very tight joints. Thanks for sharing!!!

Dear James, why not cutting the tails first, then trace them in the pins piece and rout away? 😮 Great jig, btw! I want to try to make a 2" thick board bench with it!

Hey James. Cool video. I just might revisit my inclination to avoid dovetails for SO many reasons!

Thinking, why not use same jig for tails? I’m looking at a simple pine blanket chest and need 16” width which won’t fit on bandsaw - I could do half, then flip since tails can be cut either way but 16” x 3ft board is a hassle to manhandle on a small bandsaw. So why not mark out the tails and clamp the boards in the jig and use a dovetail bit - being a wide board means no need for narrow pins so it should be rather easy.

On carriage bolts I grind and file opesasit sides to the square making a tee head, then I chisel a slot to match. It puts the head below or flush with the surface. I think the superior hold is worth the extra work.
