In the final round of The American Express 2024, Nick Dunlap shot a 2-under 70 to win by one shot at 29-under overall. Dunlap’s clutch par on the 72nd hole sealed his first victory on the PGA TOUR, the first by an amateur since 1991.

The PGA TOUR returns to the mainland this week for the 65th annual playing of The American Express. This event is the first multi-course event of the season. Justin Thomas will be teeing it up for the first time this year, his first appearance in La Quinta since finishing T7 in 2015. He’ll be looking to replicate the form which saw him claim three-straight top-fives worldwide after missing out on the FedExCup Playoffs. Scottie Scheffler will also be in California this week and has three top-25 results at The American Express in his career highlighted by a solo third in 2020. He also managed a T5 at The Sentry two weeks ago. Min Woo Lee will also like his chances this week in the Coachella Valley as he concluded 2023 as one of the hottest on the planet with a pair of wins worldwide highlighting a stretch of five-straight top-15s. Others to look out for are Xander Schauffele, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler and Will Zalatoris.

He went toe to toe with Justin Thomas and Sam Burns and beat them and a bunch of really good players. In my lifetime of 55 years this ranks up there pretty high with the most impressive things I've ever seen in golf.

That really had to be a roller coaster of emotions as it really looked like he was going to fall just short until 17 when Burns hit it in the water and then crumbled on 18. But finding out just prior to that chip on 18 that he only had a 1-stroke cushion and then pulling it off was absolutely clutch. And even after the great chip, had to make a 5-6 footer which normally, not a big deal but in that scenario had to look like it was a 20 footer. Well done young man!

What a moment we had the privilege to witness live. One thing I always preach to my juniors is that in the end golf is all about character, and now I can talk about this young man's performance as Exhibit A!

I think if you can swing a PGA tour event as amateur you should automatically get your tour card. What an amazing accomplishment 😮

Amazing play by the young man. And can we just all take time to appreciate JT. Taking the time to make sure Nick is able to calm down, finish and then relish in this amazing accomplishment. Love to see it!

Watching the emotion pour over the kid at the end…look on his face was “did I really just do that?”
Shows how in the moment he was the whole round, incredible to watch.

Loved watching him taking over at last 3 holes especially. I am pretty damn sure this experience will be his biggest asset for his golf professional career to come!

JT is getting very media savvy, nice use of hat so know one could lip read when he was talking to Dunlap at the end.
