Teach, and enforce, good morals and values, respect (for others, as well as for one's self), ethics, honor, courage (to not fall into peer pressure, and to stand up against evil), pride, and virtues.
It is sad to see all of these people, speaking "bravely" at this memorial, but not speaking up and telling the police that their kid, or their neighbor's kid, did the shooting.
I used to play baseball and do boxing at Piotrowski Park (Keeler Park), while living on 23rd & Drake. Walking to the park, going through rival gang territories, at times getting beat up because they thought I was a Latin King or a Two Six.
I hated living there and swore I would leave that neighborhood and never come back.
That I would keep my family safe and secure, and be a successful man.
I have accomplished all of those goals, and created and succeeded in creating other goals.
All because my parents taught me how not be a victimhood-mentality individual.
R.I.P. to that little girl, and prays and condolences to her family.
Hopefully, but I doubt it, this even solidifies what needs to be done, by a cowardly, turn-a-blind-eye towards the criminals within their community, and their very own families.
Most of the gangbangers in that community still live with their parents' houses.
They should lose their homes, since they are harboring criminals.
