People are some times hesitant to file a claim for hail damage because they're concerned that their insurance company will raise their rates. We get asked this question all the time.

Homeowners, don't depend on a roofer answering this question. It's much better for you to let an insurance agent answer this question, rather than a roofer, so this week, we're doing a Zoom interview with local insurance agent, Craig England.

Can your insurance rates go up for a claim for hail damage?
Does having claims on your record raise any red flags when you're shopping for insurance?
What is the insurance industry's CLU report?

Craig answers all these questions in this week's video.

Homestead Roofing, Inc is a licensed and fully-insured roofing contractor in Colorado Springs, Colorado and serving homeowners in Colorado Springs, Fountain, Falcon, Peyton, Manitou Springs, and other surrounding communities.

Also if you have a 15 year old roof here in florida, plan on getting a non renewal letter before your next policy renewal.

As a contractor one must always remember. The Insurance companies are only experts on Policy not Construction. You can combine all the Insurance CEO's in America and they have zero knowledge when it comes to roofing just like the adjusters and 3rd parties they send out. No 50 yr Corporation has the knowledge of a 1 yr tradesmen in any field this also applies to engineers. The only thing thst matters in the claims process is not what Insurance Companies say not what a engineer firm says it's what the contractor says in accordance with state legislation, codes and manufacturers specs. Public Adjusters are great for the back and forth BS then the ace in the hole is a lawsuit by a attorney. Insurance companies start back peddling as soon as suit is filed. Educate you're homeowners on PA's and filing suit as soon as you have the original denial.

If a home has several claims filed by a previous owner, will that affect the new home owner’s insurance rates?

You file a claim home, auto, or live in certain zone, if your lucky the premium will double. Nowaday, a non-renewal notice in the mail.

What is the purpose of insurance any more, if not to cover damage, especially when it’s out of the homeowners control? Hail damage after 10 years of never missing a payment. Fine, new roof but we’re going to raise your rates to get that money back. 😤

If merely inquiring about whether the policy you're paying for will cover an issue in your home raises your rates, then the industry or the company raising rates is a toxic organization.

Helpful info. I think it's kind of bs tho if a homeowner has legitimate/honest claims. It's not their fault if hail damage or storm damage occurred to them. Isn't that what insurance is for. In case shit happens. It's like the insurance companies count things that are not in your control as a homeowner, against you. Which does not sound fair and seems one sided.

I know there are ppl out there making illegitimate claims and trying to commit insurance fraud, they screw it up for everyone else. However, for honest hardworking people, I don't think this is the case.

Here is how you screw those greedy unfair insurance agencies.
Pay for the storm/wind storm resistant shingles when your roof is damaged. You can go along long time without needing coverage or filing claims from then on.

So filing casualty loss claims not only follow me,

Like the 10/2019 EF3 Tornado that absolutely DESTROYED our condo,

(Which STILL as of 01/2024 have not been rebuilt).

Or the several hail storms in 2023 (May, June, with a final 2.25” Hail storm TWICE on 9/24/2023) Which ruined the 10 year old roof on the 1/2 duplex that we bought since our condo still haven’t been rebuilt?

Due to no fault of myself: no leaving my doors unlocked no one stealing anything that I owned no stupid claims like that I’m still gonna be penalized for casualty loss weather events beyond my ability to control or protect from?

Phooey on this insurance hooey and Bullshite of a thimble-rig 3-Card Monty insurance game.

Insurance company’s: having your cake & eating it too…🤦‍♂️

This doesnt sound right. At least it is contrary to what my Allstate agent tells me here in TX. Acts of God such as wind or hail. Do not directly affect ur insurance. At least thats what they tell you. And it is against the law to cancel or not renew based on wind or hail claims.

This looks like a pre-written script. The guy answering questions looks fine. Could be more professional. But there is an agenda here.
