1) If you plan to file a claim for disability, pension, or DIC benefits and you notify us of your intent to file VA form 21-0966, it sets a potential start date (or effective date) for your benefits. When you do this, you may be able to get retroactive payments (compensation that starts at a point in the past). This is because your start date for benefits will be earlier than the date you file your claim.
2) File your claim by mail using an Application for Disability Compensation and Related Compensation Benefits (VA Form 21-526EZ). ...
3) You can work with a trained professional called an accredited representative to get help filing a claim for disability compensation.

Every one of us need to send this vid to someone. Hopefully some of those will reach young people that are currently serving. I wish I had this info in the past! Put in my ITF, I will do my homework on the next claim so I can get better than 10%. Thanks for all the info

One of my many errors was not speaking the right language to Doc's in a 20 min medical consult. I studied the symptoms so I could properly explain my probs in their language as only they can formally state a specific diag code. I also now have a smoother path with a private diagnosis to start then doing followup VA consults across at least 6 months. Advice a previous rater gave me... think about the rater: can they make sense of a claim on the spot in about 10 mins?

Please some content directed at national Guard it is a quite different. Found out the hard way. Fortunately I had an NCO who led me to the LOD after my first deployment.

Any helpful advice for a chronic fatigue case? How can I win if 80% are denied?

I’ve been out of the Marine Corps since 1995. Always thinking I can deal with my mental issues. I was in Desert Storm. Combat veteran. Recently I’ve been seeing the Va drs and a mental health specialist. The dr has it documented that I have tinnitus. The mental health specialist just the other day asked me if I filed for disability for my PTSD. because she spent a couple of sessions with me, and sees that I have it. She even said if the VA claims department has any questions, to call her. Is this the right direction that I’m going? I have an appointment with our local VA representatives tomorrow. Need some advice on what I need and should do. Thanks

Secondary conditions do not need the one year timeframe.

Hi! If a C&P examiner writes on his/her report that the veterans condition is “more likely than not” as a result of active duty, would the rater concur with this fully? Thanks.

I was Airborne for 4 years. I had a few injuries feet, back, other body injuries. Mainly Knee problems. I have records of old sick call profiles. Can I use those to support my claim? Mind you it's been 20 plus years. Also OIF VET

I have multiple conditions, some with medical records, some without. Shoud I wait until I have the doc look at everything and file everything at the same time, or should I just submit individual claims as I get the supporting med records?

Thank you so much for all the info! Will the VA help write the nexus? I'm still within a year of separating and am going to make appointments with the VA to start discussing my issues.

I need some help. Combat engineer desert storm. Can’t forget the things I saw, it’s ruined my life. Not to mention had teeth broken during training and never fixed right has caused serious problems for me. So many other issues. I’ve never done anything because I just don’t know how to go about it. I have had over 20 different jobs in the past 20 years alone, been divorced all from anxiety and anger issues. Don’t know what to do at this point.
