The hamstring is probably my favorite human body part to work on in terms of exercise, rehab, prehab, and performance. They are just so versatile and with a little bit of imagination, you can really push them to their limits.
As you will see, I use a variety of positions, with each one becoming harder and including more tension or more muscle activation. In the initial position, where my calf is on the bench, I am totally excluding the gastrocnemius from the activation. This is really important because the gastroc usually wants to help or even take over from the hamstring in some instances. So for those of you who struggle with really feeling the hamstrings in these sorts of exercises, this is the best way to get a head start.
And finally - the FINISHER💀This exercise is great for glute max stability, dynamic hamstring activation, and proprioception. Your toes are the ones that hit the surface first and then the tension that is met from the surface translates all the way up into the glutes and hamstrings and really forces them to work isometrically.
