my manager is awkward. Inconsistent, doesn't communicate, forget things, unsupportive, random, has multiple personality, sometimes he's happy next he's mad and talks down to you.

I've experienced 9 out of 10 of these things. People keep leaving, but leadership never does anything because they want to be surrounded by"yes" people, too.

You’ve just described my ex manager. She got promoted to general manager and just hired all her friends and family into leadership roles. Set out rules that didn’t apply to her or her family just the rest of us. She briefly promoted me, demoted me after I made 1 mistake when I wasn’t given proper training, her family member made the exact same mistake as me a month later and I heard her say don’t worry about it mistakes happen.
She’s still in the job but she’s failing spectacularly with a staff retention rate of -30% 😅

From personal experience:

1. The manager is straight up rude to you. The guy was so out of line that I emailed his boss about it (I got the email address from the company's "leadership" page). He actually called me and we chatted for 10 minutes. He tries to gaslight me by saying it "I've known him for 9 years" and it was a "stress test". My response: "And I only need to know him for 15 minutes to know why the position is ALWAYS on Indeed and he called me to schedule an interview the same day I applied."

Within a couple of months the interviewing manager was no longer with the company.

2. They're rushing you to start earlier than two weeks when you have a job. You shouldn't have to explain to a manager that you need to give your current job a two weeks notice. Anytime a prospective tries to do that, rescind the job acceptance.

It is the fault also of the person and company that allowed a bad supervisor be hired. I know one that says he can do the job but rather be on his desk doing NOTHING, I came by and clearly he was sleeping more than one time. A company that allows people like that to be in charge do NOT deserve respect because they themselves do NOT respect customers if they hire someone like that to be in charge.

I'm currently under a bad manager that fits most of your list. I was getting mobbed when I first arrived but noticed the signs and immediately started grayrocking. I survived through it because others became better targets. I'm currently watching people get thrown to the wolves and even starting to see glimpes of backbiting of the new employee that was being used and pit against me. The only way I survive is by laying low and acting like I don't have potential. What I do is just try to lazer sharpen my techniques on what my boss allows me to do. In the meanwhile picking up crumbs from co-workers to covertly learn new things

The worst is most bosses don’t even understand their job ! I’ve seen managers also rewarding or talking highly of the worst employee of a team when they clearly aren’t working more than 2 hours a week and billing 40 hours

Giant red flag: nepotism arrangements. When the boss' wife/husband works in the office. Especially if they're not qualified for the role. Run far, far away and don't ever accept the job. Nothing good ever comes out of that. Or any form of nepotism really (friends, family members, etc). You, as the employee, will always be "wrong". Not to mention, if you have a legitimate complaint about a spouse, you can't exactly bring that up to the boss. Nepotism harms morale in the office and is a sure sign of a toxic place to work.

Every manager needs to be sat down and forced to watch this entire channel.

My current boss ticks off every one of the items on this list. I've been contemplating leaving for over a year, now I'm working to make that a reality. I've never worked for a worse company.

As a manager of a single medical Dr. office, I never wanted the role. But with people leaving, I was next up. I am trying to be the best I can be. Problem is, I often doubt my own abilities. I will be getting out of the job soon. Man do I hate being responsible for everything that happens. Don’t be a manager unless you can avoid doing the things in this video. So important.

Yeah, I remember when I saw the first sign of a bad manager to work for. I was once at a university's cafe where the manager was kind of rude. I threw a sandwich basket in the garbage, and the manager told me it wasn't disposable and took it out, explaining why it needed to be on the food conveyor belt. After I apologized, she said, "It's okay. Just don't let it happen again." Sure, it wasn't *exactly* a strict tone *...per se...* but I still thought that was kind of a rude way to reply to my apology. It was an honest mistake and obviously I understood right from wrong in that moment. She could've simply left it at "It's okay" and assumed I would never make that mistake again.

And if I'd have known it was _her_ catering company I was applying for, I wouldn't have applied. The irony is a potential employer has to make a good first impression on the employee as well as the other way around. I got a bad vibe in that cafe, and I was right about her personality all along.

This is the first and only video that I have come across that describes my two faced boss.

I was under a poor leader who exhibited all ten of these traits. My clout and intelligence were a threat to him, so I became a target. I left my 19-year career in 2022 and have been a lot happier since.
