If you want to build bigger shoulders then you are going to have to learn how to stretch them. The key to building big shoulders is to learn how to stop overlooking the stretch reflex on at least some of your shoulder exercises. Most other muscle groups make it easy to engage this important fiber recruiting reflex because getting into the stretch position for the muscle worked is fairly easy. When it comes to the shoulders however, you have to intentionally create the stretch by altering the way you do some popular shoulder exercises now. To target the front delts, you can either perform the seated incline front stretch or the standing cable stretch front raises. Both of these moves get the arms back into extension at the shoulder, behind the body at the bottom of every rep. This helps to engage the stretch reflex out of the rep and allow for more power and type II fiber recruitment into the exercise (the fibers with the best muscle growth capacity). For the middle and rear delts, perform the cross body cable lateral raise. Here again, you can get a great stretch on the middle and rear delt, just make sure that you're not over-rotating the body which would eliminate the differential that is needed to create the stretch in the first place.
