I have been conditioned for this. I have gone through a lot for a lifetime. It doesn't take much to make me jump and scream.

Thank you for posting excellent content.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your neighbours. It is still early days since the house fire and lose of life.

I hope you follow up with the fire department when you feel ready. Advocating for animal rights makes the world a better place and in the long run will influence fire fighting practices.

In loving memory of Cassie. Beloved friend and companion.

I learned to tamp that startle response down. It was there but I tamped it down because my father was training me to respond unemotionally. So I have a strange inward initially jumpy reaction but Outwardly I seem very calm. It actually served me well in my nursing work but I'm not sure it was good for ME. Lol.

A study could be done on why the sympathetic nervous system is now so sensitive. To combat it, deep belly breathing to activate the parasympathetic nervous system.

I'm here cause earlier today I was in the room alone, secretly recording a cute short video, when one of my parents suddenly walked in, and I jumped (not the regular scared reaction, it was involuntary and from my inner core, as the doc described it as "jumping out of my skin" literally)
Throughout my teenage years I underwent heavy abuse from both of my parents and that heavy trauma left a significant impact. Even though now in my twenties, i've been maintaining somewhat of a good relation with only one my parents. But whenever any of them walks in suddenly, even if I was doing nothing wrong, my body does that exaggerated startle response. Associated with a sudden intense body spasm, which got recorded in my video, and I examined it, to which I realised that it's not normal. Thus my research and finding out that, true, it is a PTS, what might be either Hyperekplexia or nonhabituating hyperstartling.
Hopefully i'll get to recover by realizing that no more harm could be done. As the pain caused by my parents to younger me. We're not weak, we're strong adults now and everything's gonna be okay.
I'm a biologist btw, and used to ace my neuroscience exams, amazing how our autonomic nervous system works.

Hi I have PTSD and I’ve tried different therapies such as EMDR, CBT, Somatic therapy, hypnotherapy and nothing has worked for me, my symptoms are still the same. I am still hypervigilant. I get startled by sudden loud noises or movements. I cannot seem to deal with any little amount of stress or excitement. What do I need to do to treat this please?
