It annoys me slightly how PTSD is only really associated with military or assault. I was diagnosed with PTSD at the age of 13 after years of bullying. It doesn’t just occur in veterans or assault survivors

Life can be so painful. Psychological and emotional pain are literally some of the most painful things I have felt.

PTSD can be caused by experiencing traumatic events. I'm a Vietnam Veteran, and my case of PTSD is considered to be moderate and chronic. The chronic part means it will never go away.
I experienced severe depression and acute anxiety when I was in my early 20s. Nightmares, flashbacks, and intrusive thoughts. My attitude was that I thought I was the toughest guy in the world, and I don't need anyone's help. I'll deal with this on my own. After 30 years, I finally went to the VA and asked for help. I received therapy and medication for PTSD, and it did seem to help somewhat. My only regret is that I wish I had done this sooner. It's been 50 years since I returned home from Vietnam, and I don't think about Vietnam much anymore. Along with the medication, I have learned to manage the symptoms of PTSD better than when I was younger. I can still become anxious at times, but I haven't felt depressed for several years. I rarely have nightmares, and I haven't had a flashback for awhile. My quality of life has improved dramatically. Time has a way of healing to a certain extent. My memories of those awful events I saw happen have faded, and I'm not being tormented by those experiences anymore. I may remember something happening, but I can't "see" the event anymore.

Don't ever allow anyone to tell you that you are a wimp for admitting you have some kind of problem. It takes courage to deal with some kind of problem you are having. I have a magnetic refrigerator sticker that the VA gave to me, and it states: It takes the courage and strength of a warrior to ask for help. Don't try to be the Lone Ranger. Asking for help is the first step on the road to your recovery.

So this is when u have nightmares or flashbacks from a trauma, and that makes u stay on alert and be stressed out all the time.

Intense exercise/ anything that makes you control your breath and sweat also helps. Working out was a game changer when it felt like nothing else worked. The gym became my sanctuary for restoring my body and mind. It was amazing for me along side therapy, meds and other lifestyle changes.

I've been diagnosed with PTSD caused bye the sudden death of my mother when I was 18. I can't seem to find a lot of videos talking about developing PTSD from the sudden loss of a loved one. I don't really bring up my diagnosis that much because I feel a bit ashamed, because of the fact that it's considered just a disorder of people that have been to war in general society. I'm glad that slowly more people are starting to understand that is much broader than that. And no matter the cause, no one should feel shameful.

I have a diagnosis of Severe Prolonged PTSD. I am also a former counselor with the VA with a majority of my clients having PTSD. I admire for putting this video out. The public needs to know more about this condition.

The great thing about your videos are they are short and have bang on title "key words" which is great, helps a ton with studies, thanks a many

i got diagnosed with ptsd after a drunk driver crashed into me a few years ago during a car accident. after it happened i immediately could tell I mentally felt different. but couldn’t explain or understand why. after being diagnosed & watching videos likes these, helping me understand why i am the way i am now, is so helpful so i can send ppl close to me these types of vids so they can better understand what i’m going through, bc I have extremely hard time talking about this/finding the words to explain it.

I have ptsd, but it was from having my parents argueing and fist fighting everyday and just being scared, no one helped me, I was always crying, and I was so young, I didn’t know what to do, now I can’t handle argueing.

i am diagnosed with anxiety and depression but something traumatic happened a month ago and my mind will not let it go. i keep replaying the events in my head, i get angry easily, i think about the event everyday. it kills me inside i just wish it would stop. i’m 99.9% sure i have ptsd from it. i’m just too scared to open up about it to anyone. as if dealing with severe anxiety wasn’t enough
