So… the PS4 was just trying to clean the air vents all the time?

One of the coolest features of the PS3. A console that was absolutely ahead of its time. So futuristic and pretty looking. I still have my launch model that plays PS2 games.

I like that you are always discovering new things with these older consoles. Makes it feel like they still have amazing things to offer in their old age.

The ps3 was such a classic system. The initial design still holds up.

Man, that original ps3 really was a great-looking console aesthetically

Damn, I can't believe that only a minority of PS3 users knew about this trick. I can't believe it saves time disassembling the system.

To add, if you have a disk in your PS3 it will eject it after the process. This all happens before startup checks so this saved me from losing a disk when my ps3 got YLODed.

This is a helpful tip, but the PS3 system still needs proper maintenance. The thermal paste is 16 years old now (if you have a launch model) CECH-A/B01. Thermal paste needs changed both on top and under the IHS (on top of the dies) as well. I have done this to all of my PS3's. The launch model has a metal PSU that generates a lot of heat.

i remember accidently doing that as a kid and thinking my console got broken 🤣🤣

If you have a slim it doesn’t have a power switch, but all you gotta do is unplug and plug back in the power cable while holding the eject button and it’ll work.

Accidentally found this and when it started making that sound I thought I had screwed my system up. Its a great feature. Definitely helps.

Concise and informative. Sony should make this the official tips and tutorial channel.

Additional Info: This trick works on Slims, but only on some Fat consoles. The Launch model Backward Compatible models (CECH A, B, C, E ) do not have this. If you attempt this, it will only give you a triple beep and nothing more.

Depends on the type of dust. Loose, very dry dust would obviously be ejected; but things like fur, cigarette or candle smoke residue, and the like would not be affected very much by the higher velocity.

I found this out recently. I never owned a PS3 during its generation, I was an Xbox 360 kid. So I recently picked up a CECH-A01 and did the whole delid process and a fan mod. It really was a great system and now it handles all of my PS1, PS2 & PS3 gameplay and my PS5 takes care of PS4.

Very helpful feature. I still have my PS3 and plan to do this later today. Thanks so much for sharing this information. Happy Friday!

I know about it from many years, but I'm glad you show it to other people.

I discovered this trick back in 2011 & I clean it every 3-6 months
I wish this feature come to future consoles 😢

I can’t believe how many tips you give us my dude. I’m gonna do this to my old PS3 and watch those dust bunnies fly.

Seems important and helpful. So nice for Sony to keep this stuff hidden.
