I refurb consoles and I can tell you that the trick you showed will ramp up the fan but it most definitely does not clean itself. Playstations are dust traps. It takes multiple tools to clean the interior of consoles not fancy button work.

If you want to genuinely clean PS3, simply just open the thing up and actually clean the damn thing!.

It's not a self cleaning mode it's a fan test mode, it never was classed as a fan cleaning mode

This is not going to fix any problems a PS3 has. If your PS3 has any overheating issues it's going to need to be opened up and cleaned. Thermal paste in your average PS3 in 2023 will need to be replaced too.

I doubt its a dust cleaning mode, its more likely that all that power on/off makes the console think its caused by an overheat and tries to cool the console off

So clean? Not sure since the dust just blows inside everywhere. Not sure it’s self cleaning if dust isn’t blown out of the PS3.

THANK YOU FOR THE INFO !!!! I had problems with the PS3 version of Modern Warfare 2 . I had problems during the blowing the doors on the oil platform mission . After blowing out the door, I would fire the weapon . The weapon would reload while I was still firing at the Russians . Then I found your video . Thanks again .

That is not a hidden trick, its called ps3 fan testing, that why you should read the manual first before your use your playstation
