The PlayStation 3 turned a lot of heads back in the day. On release, it was the most expensive system on the market at over $600. This was due to a lot of things ranging from the built-in Blu-ray player that could read both standard discs and the Blu-ray discs the games were on, which at the time was a cutting edge piece of tech, to the latest gaming engines and state of the art graphics the launch titles had.

This new generation of consoles came with a set of features and capabilities that had not been seen before. With the PlayStation 3, you had perfected online play. The PlayStation 2 also had online play, but only for a few games and it was not a perfect system. With the Playstation 3, a gamer could effortlessly play online through the PlayStation Network, an online service that is still used today in the PlayStation 4, albeit upgraded for the modern gamer.

However, after nearly a decade, there are still some features and tricks that you may not have known about. So in this video, we’ll be looking at some of the lesser known tips, tricks and features you may not have known about. What feature was a secret to you before watching this list? Let us know in the comments down below. Don’t forget to subscribe to TheGamer for more exciting gaming content.

If you go to your PS3 Bluetooth settings and scan for a device after holding the Share + Home buttons it will allow you to connect DS4 controllers wireless. You can also use the controller on PC, and smartphones the same way.

You can connect the ps4 controller to the ps3 through bluetooth you just have to hold the touchpad and share button to get it to do so.

Instead of upgrading to a larger capacity traditional disc hard drive you could add a higher capacity SSD and have increased storage and faster load times as well.

Another feature I'm suprised wasn't mentioned was that originally you could install a whole linux operating system on the PS3 and use it as a computer. This feature was later removed, leading to a class action law suit for false advertising or something similar. I received a $20 check from the lawsuit.

The Wii had a web browser. There were even websites that had compatible games.

The reason for the region issues for ps3 game is the different region games use different disk ID's. So if you had both regions you would see they would act independent of each other. Each would use its own save file, install, updates, and use its own associated dlc. This is because each region might have unique differences making each others content not interchangeable. This same thing applies to all consoles if you defeated region locking.

Accessing my PS3 via remote play was one of my favorite features. I would connect to my PS3 with my Sony Aino in class and update my games and such, even accessed my EyeToy so I can spy on my house when I was not home.

Ps1 Backwards compatability on all ps3 revisions, Ability to rip music disks to the system, Stream your ps3 to your psp using remote play, Using Remote play to play Physical Ps1 games on your PSP. Ps3 is still an amazing system.

Running out of space NEVER meant having to delete any game progress. Those files were mostly less than 10MB in size. If you really want more space but don't want to go through upgrading your HDD, just delete the game data of games you aren't playing anymore(Data installed by the disk upon first loading the game). Game data doesn't include your progress. Save game data is a different section.

Scored a CECH-B01 (20 GB backwards compatible launch model) for $50 recently. Works great. I love playing ps2 games on it. Ps3 is the best Sony console. You could add all your music to the system and play it in game with games that were compatible.

Lies. The Sega Dreamcast took had a browser and it was part of the 6th generation. Heck, even the Sega Saturn had a web browser, and that was during the PS1 era.

1 cool feature that I found out about when my PS3 was still fairly new, was that if you held down the power button til it beeped twice, it would switch to the highest resolution available to it. Great way to switch from component cable to HDMI without having to bother with the settings on the system.
