I'll never forget the commander that encouraged me to drive a supply truck for the first time. He hopped into the passenger seat and tutored me on how to build nodes and where the best place would be to drop supplies. I think we lost the match because he was busy showing me something but prioritized my knowledge over the match. This game is a breath of fresh air, and I find it really cool how such an unforgiving game has such a helpful, wholesome, and often times hilarious community

I started playing on friday. Joined as level one and one level 200 dude immidiatly wrote: "You, new dude, come in my squad, we gonna explain you stuff if you like". I love it.

100% agree with how friendly the community is. My first match someone asked me to be an engineer and I told him I didn’t know how that class works and he told me a ton

7th game last night, decided to take on the commander role since no-one else would. Over the course of another 30 minutes, a player called Yuri guided me on how to make the best usage of the Commander abilities. Most welcoming community ever

I just started this game and took a tanker crewman roll in my third game. I debated telling my crewmates that I've never operated a tank before and decided against it. I made a couple minor mistakes and they quickly realized I'm a newbie. They proceeded to teach me and I had one of the coolest gaming experiences ever as we took down 8 tanks and probably around 60 foot soldiers in the first tank.

Just adding on a few things:
1) Bushes are your friend (and foe): Bushes, good for hiding, and ambushing people. Always try to be near one, it might save you. (In short.)
2) TRUCKS: I swear to god, please return the trucks if you can once dropping off soldiers. It’s good to place them next to either Garrisons, or back at the HQ. We really don’t need a transport truck taking a tank shell just cause someone left it sitting in the capture point.

Man, I played my first game of squad leader when I was a level 3. I fell in love with the role because of the squad I was with. They were all relatively seasoned players, who helped me and taught me the ins and outs of the game. Truly the best game community I've ever played in. Those guys from my first SL game are still regulars in my squad and it makes the game so enjoyable.

Thanks for adding evidence of people being chill to new players. It's a nice touch for anxious newbies.

As a veteran, we LOVE when noobs ask questions and actually want to learn

Just got the game and didn't really know what I was doing besides running around as a medic wherever the combat was happening, but I managed to get the Desmond Doss achievement and got a lot of "Thanks a lot doc." or "Medic, I can't feel my legs."

I don't know if I was completely useful or not, but I felt a sense of fulfillment and pride being 1 of our 2 medics for the entire team.

As a squad lead with over 200 hours in that role I say this is all solid advice. The biggest advice here though is in fact talk, communicate, even if it’s basic like “hey I see guys at heading 230”. Play your role, learn it, find one that fits and learn how to play it.

This should be an unskippable intro video every time a new player opens the game. Until at least level 50.

Just played my first 3 matches on your server this morning. Won all 3 matches and was shoved into commander role in the last match. We were down 2-3 in territories on warfare and my squad leaders coached me to where we ended up winning. Needless to say I am instantly hooked to this game.

As a new player, I was surprised at how nice the community was and willingness to explain the role. We had a commander playing his second or third game in that role and a few other squad leaders were giving him point. I prefer medic or engineer but one of my pet peeves is when the squad leader abdicates the role and nobody steps up. One of the things that I do as squad lead is tell my squad is on Warfare, to maintain defense on our objective and let other units attack and then move up once the next objective is taken. I'll also make sure to talk to other squad leads and the commander about getting Garrys up on fall back locations as well as an OP for my squad outside of the Garry. My rule of thumb is to at least have 2-3 sides of cover with garrys and OP's to prevent us getting killed off spawn. On Offensive, I always set up the fall back garry and have an OP near the current objective.

The most important thing for new players you have said is "This game has no Team Deathmatch".
If you want kills go play BF or CoD or else. Nobody will be mean to you when you're new or when you can't talk, but never ever just go for kills, it's the only thing we're allergic to.
It's a team game, Teamwork makes the dream work. :)

Another great video. As you say, new players shouldn't be shy about asking for help. I would only add that if they find themselves in a squad in which the other players aren't talking, or one in which they're not being helpful, move to another squad.

When defensive garrisons are not getting built, I go solo SL with a locked squad and then I'll just play the match solo and check the map for supply drops and help the commander build garrisons.

I'm a HLL Vetran and I loved the don't create a Squad and abandon the SL position. I'm maxed out in Commander and Squad Leader but not in any of the Squad positions I am constantly getting into match and the SL will abandon early or mud game and nobody wants to step up which leaves me and then half of time nobody wants to listen. "Hey CO said our Squad has defend the last point" and then I got one dude with me waiting at the point and then 4-5 dudes still attacking while getting overran. Idk what's up with new players but the just wanna do their own thing 90% of the time and I contemplate leaving HLL and Squad all together. Great video though

Never fear about not knowing. Feel free to ask your squad mates they'll always be happy to help!

Also, no matter how much time you have into the game you still always learn things. I have 400 hours into the game and I just found out you can use Q or E to rotate barbwire to fit into tighter spots where you otherwise couldn't place. (works on most things).

And I still blow mind of players even with 1000 hours that you can HOLD Space to vault over objects with greater success vs slapping space trying to get over walls. It works a LOT better if you get into the habit of holding space.

I’ve only played a few matches so far and I gotta say, this community is amazing. I’ve had a ton of laughs and even had a squad commander show me some of the ropes on how to be more effective. I’m excited for more for sure!
