Great video. There are four reasons why I greatly prefer the 16” over the 14”: larger screen, larger trackpad, longer battery life, better speakers.

Absolutely! If you don’t need the portability of the 14, the 16” is a no brainer. Plus the fans are massive on the 16 which results in less fan noise, critical for recording audio.

the thing is that once you get use to the 16inch screen, any size smaller than 16inch is too small for mobile working

the reasons why am sticking to my 16 inch are THE SPEAKERS AND THE BATTERY . the battery of the 16 inch is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD ! I top up the battery every morning, spend the entire day in office on battery and finish a day of work with 60-65% battery left ! That's insane !

yeah I feel the same way!! The only Con with the 16 inch is when you gonna put it away and carry it, it is on the heavier side! but other than that, the screen real estate is perfect, battery life, track pad, everything is just much better. I recommend of you do have a 16 inch to get the MONO Classic FLYBY ULTRA pack to carry around the laptop, it's an amazing bag.

I watched this video before getting a 14" and felt EXACTLY the same before AND after and it's hard to believe because I was so dead set. Coming back to say thanks I should have listened lol.

Has your opinion changed at all, especially with the M3 chips that fix a lot of the problems with the 14"?

Here I am after just ordering the 14 inch m2 max debating did I make the right choice thinking of that bigger screen

Great video. In store the 16" looks massive compared to the 14" even though the specs are identical. I always use a wireless keyboard and mouse when I am not connected to my edit bay to avoid the trackpad issue. I want my workflow to stay identical wherever I edit. I usually pack a collapsable mac stand to have the MBP at eye level.

Pretty much the reasons i was going instantly for the 16" (as well because of the sound), the 14" looked already in the shop like a bigger netbook and i hated since ever the thin speaker grills, the 15 and 16" models always looked (and sounded) better. But battery and screen size were the main reasons for 16".

I even got away with the base model 16/512, with a Sabrent TB4 external drive its basically as fast as the internal SSD. I have mostly between 200-300GB free space on the internal SSD and this is enough for shorter videos as well, for bigger stuff i need the 2TB sabrent drive which is also handy with about 2500-2700MB/s.
Also, since i have to share sometimes hundreds of GB astrophotography data with a windows Desktop to stack/process with my preffered program (Deep Sky Stacker, Windows exclusive) i have to rely anyways very much on external drives.

This video summed up exactly how I felt about the 14 vs 16. I went with the 16 because I wanted the laptop to actually be a laptop and it is a side to my main windows desktop. But I want the ability to edit on the laptop or just use it on the couch or just not be forced to sit at the desk. I can use my laptop laying down. But I can’t lay down and use my desktop lol. I was going to order the 512 gig and do the same thing as you with a 2tb nvme USB C external enclosure. But then I changed my mind and actually got the one terabyte because if I install a bunch of applications I know I will have at least 300 gigs free on the internal. Then if I record a lot on a weekend trip. I can just use that internal drive to hold 300 gigs of projects it’s enough.

I was thinking of sending back my 16" M1Max for a 14" M1Pro and you just gave me all the reasons why I should not do that. Thank you! After about 2 weeks of using it, I also noticed that the large trackpad is just too damn good! Giving it back for the smaller one might not be the best trade off if it ends up slowing me down.

Great decision. As a student and no video editing work flow, I decide to pick base model that with 512 gb is enough for me. And since portability is not an issue, then why not bigger screen real estate~

Love my 16" M1 Max but for what my day job (lots of different locations, 4 wheel office) it is just too big. Ended up keeping it as my in home computer and added the M2 13 Air, with which I am totally impressed. Best of both worlds set up.

Maybe for content creators or software developers, the 16-inch is a better fit. I think for anyone else 14-inch is the perfect laptop. It's so portable and yet powerful.

Great video. I have had the 15 in for 10 years and have tried the 14in Pro. It feels really tiny and a long way away from my hands; the screen is noticeably smaller. I can see it being good for travelers, but I'm looking forward to trying the 16in.
