This Is Perverse Mind Control (Knee Pain +Joint Pain)

Today we're talking about the perverse way conversations about joint pain get slanted to favor surgery and medical intervention. This subtle slanting of perspective leads you to think muscles are somehow irrelevant to common aches and pains.

Good advice. After several diet attempts I finally started listening to my body, diet wise, exercise wise, and mentally. I went from a 62 year old feeling like 80 to feeling like 40! Tons of energy, almost zero joint pain and more flexible that when I was 20! The biggest change was stopping and actually listening to my body - know what works, what doesn’t, and be aware of you limitations. You will figure it out from there if you push yourself to be patience and listen. P.S. the food industry is not your friend.

You have spoken an undeniable truth .
The medical and dental establishment will try to convince you that whatever treatment they are pushing at the moment is the only way. Your body can usually heal itself, given time and movement.
Thanks for this channel!!

Facts! The pain from my hips created unbearable pain down my legs and my knees. Once the hips were stretched deeply twice a day for two weeks, the pain completely dissapeared, and Matt's simple stretches work great. I'm supposed to be in a wheelchair, ha, never!!! Thank you, for being honest. Yes everyone, this does work. You'll need to do the work and learning your body is very liberating🥰 No excuses, yoga, pilates, food growing even juicing is free online💜💜💜 Thank you, Matt.

Matt is very thoughtful in thinking about the assessment of health and wellness. Thank you for educating in this video while not being critical of others who practice medicine.

I would like to add my personal experience to the conversation. I have been a side sleeper all my life but as I grew older, started experiencing hip, knee and ankle pain. As I walk quite a bit when traveling in Europe, I was in really bad pain and chalked it up to arthritis and aging as I was told arthritis runs in our family and my mom, sister, and brother have had several knee surgeries. I was mentally preparing for possible surgeries in the future and took ibuprofen daily.

After watching Upright Health routinely and getting common sense primers on the physiology of the body and the interoperability of joints from Matt, I decided to rethink my assumptions. Over the course of a year, I performed a serious of systematic approaches to make small corrections from the hips to the feet.

1) I stopped watching TV in bed on my side and purchased a pillow to ensure my hips and knees were aligned as I slept
2) I discovered I suffered from foot pronation and migrated to zero drop shoes to help realign my feet/ankles
3) As I have a sitting desk job, I changed my desk chair and became more purposeful about my posture and foot placement throughout the day

Over the course of a year, all my pains subsided and I no longer require pain medication for daily relief. My quality of life improved greatly and surgeries were totally not the solution in hindsight.

Thanks as always Matt.

You’re soooo right! By my bed rest from my diagnosis of AVN - I never moved and my muscles were atrophied. I then started having not only loss of range of motion in my hips, but soon developed knee pain. I realized the root cause was affecting all my joints because I swear all of my issues began in my lower back and NOT my hips. Anyways… I’m still working on strengthening and I’m soooo much stronger and I think that has a lot to do with me no longer believing what I’ve been told what my inevitable outcome and that was to have surgery. Thanks as always for always being so helpful!!!

I love your channel and recommend it to my patients. I am a Diplomate in Applied Kinesiology with 43 years of practice experience. I hope that doesn’t violate your rules, but my point is to say, from my experience, you are right on! The principles you profess are validated in the “miracles” that I see every day in my practice!

My Dr told me to reduce my A1C, to lose some weight. So I changed to plant based, high fiber, began exercising even though I had pain. In just a week my pain reduced & now my pain is minimal. I do cardio about 2-3 times a day 12-15 min & at night take a 20 min sauna. I’ve lost 13 pounds without a lot of hunger or trouble. I am feeling so much better. I had to take responsibility for my health and the pain I was suffering. Dr says I don’t need surgery may never need it. I needed to wake up & take care of myself. You helped me realize this too, along with my great osteoarthritis surgeon. He also told me there is no reason for me not to work full time & I do again:) Life is all better:) no surgeries yay!!!

Dem bones. Dem bones. Everything is magically connected with tendons and muscles but so many of us look for the quick fix, deny the magic of correctly directed self-healing, and simply believing and connecting to their hearts and minds. I've just begun this journey in my 7th decade. Your programs/videos are not only fun but offer serious, clear demonstrations of how to heal pain. Thank you so much.

Hi Matt thank you for your channel - I’m 70 yrs old and have been a dancer since I was 10 (ballet and tap ) and worked professionally for quite a few years - I have been teaching ballet for a good 50 years in between working as a dancer and then being a mum to my 3 children - I am still teaching dance and have been running a class for older ladies for the past 4/5 years as well as the students I teach dancing to - I have always been used to younger girls who are more flexible to work with but since starting this older class I am very aware of their limitations and I discovered your channel about 6 mths ago and I have found it invaluable in my approach to these older ladies so thank you so much - I have bone on bone in my right hip and had pain there about 6 years ago and went straight to a chiropractor for a little while and built up the strength in my hip but it has also helped me to understand how important it is for me to help these women that I teach to keep mobile as they age ( plus myself) so thank you for your channel along with my knowledge of how the body moves and works - your sessions help me to help my ladies in the areas they are struggling with - I’ve also told them about your channel so they can keep up the excercise during the rest of the week xxx many thanks

I so appreciate and look forward to your videos!! Your expert knowledge and straightforward explanations are priceless to me! I was a former fitness instructor for nearly 20 years and am suffering w/ chronic knee pain at nearly 58 years old. (Started feeling it in 2015). (Doctor has mentioned knee replacements but I said, “Not happening.”) Getting out of bed takes an act of Congress and I have not always made it to the bathroom b/c I’m too slow. (Drives me crazy and is very depressing)!😢 All this said, I’ve always been one to advocate for my own body and since I recently found you, you have validated things I have thought for a long time. Our bodies are amazing, God given gifts, and have the potential to move the way they’re intended when we’re willing to put in the work and discover that hidden potential! Please continue putting out your INCREDIBLE & LIFE CHANGING content b/c I fully intend to figure out the 411 w/ my knees and eventually update you how I did it. Your guidance is immeasurable! All the best to you, Matt!!🤩

I'm fairly new to your content, but your channel seems to be it's own search engine, as it's had a video for each issue I've had so far :) 24 years old and I'm so glad I got my shoulders back 🤣🤣 I'm about to share your channel with my mom who has foot/heel issues as well as shoulder problems, excited to get her back on track. Thanks!

So much truth in this video. Targeted exercise and more time spent stretching has improved my knee discomfort 50-75%.

This is a video that validates the experience of many people suffering from poorly understood illnesses such as fibromyalgia. Thst what we experience is more valud than the outcome of tests. Thankyou

The knee bone's connected to the hip bone... a song I learned as a child. This was just one of the lyrics, but certainly applicable to my body. You've helped me so much! Thank you!

I had injections with almost imperceptible results. This is going on for 9 -10 months now. Exercise is helping me with few days of set back. Meanwhile, my friends and family, who are high functioning, are becoming impatient and stubbornly pushing me to knee replacement. I feel totally worn out and in emotional pain after talking to them. Just barrage of interrogation - to move me to have knee replacement. Sometimes I think of not talking to them or say my knee issue is off-topic.

I am very slowly getting better with glute exercises and backwards walking after trying different things.. if I try the next level .. I regress. Now I know, it was probably not ready to try the next level. Thanks to motivating teachers like you I remain hopeful.

You are SO CORRECT! I had an orthopedic surgeon tell me a long time ago to never have my knees replaced unless I just couldn't walk at all! He said that working on strengthening the muscles was the answer not surgery. I have seen this in numerous friends who have had knee replacement surgery and they are worse off because they still don't do anything to strengthen their muscles!
