Hilarious everyone says "this guy" not knowing that Laird Hamilton is one of the most legendary surfers of all time. He is a super athlete. He helped pioneer big wave surfing. I'm talking massive waves out in the Pacific you can't physically drop into without a jetski pulling you in. It's insane what he's accomplished.

I discovered the amazing benefits of nose breathing while playing hockey two winters ago. During the game, i said to myself, hey you dont have a moutguard so in order to protect your teeths play with your mouth closed. The first 5 minutes where really tough because i had to adapt to nose breathing. However after this period of adaption was over my performance DRASTICALLY improved. I was locked in, focused like i never was before, i could see plays before they happened, it was like everything had slowed down. I started to completely dominate the game to the point of frustrating my opponents. Since this day, i do a conscious effort to nose breath everyday to the point that its now second nature to me. NOSE BREATHING ROCKS!

I joined the Army at 17. Never really ran much before.. I remember about my 2nd week in basic I was struggling with running. One of my buddies said breathe in your nose and out your mouth... I was instantly able to run like twice as good. Changed my life lol. Been doing it ever since.

I discovered this back in 2007 with the Army. We were doing PT and I noticed the PT studs were nose breathing during the 5k runs. I practiced for several weeks and in that time, my cardio improvement dramatically.

I think the main reason nose breathing is good for you and your endurance is because it forces your inspiratory and expiratory muscles to work more as well as the the entire core to stabalize your thorax. This slight increase in muscle tonus will train the muscles over time.
The higher activation will increase your endurance during performance as well as your metabolic rate in general. That reduces your body fat percentage slightly and so on. (Leptin/Ghremlin: hormones produced by fat tissue for hunger)

Yup, I have problems doing Cardio since I have been a mouth breather for the longest time, I trained myself to breath through nose in strenuous exercises, I was able to outlast my usual limits.
