They better not tell their 18-year-old American counterparts that they couldn't trust them handling $100K equipment.

Why has styrofoam:
-List a few facts
-Finally admits the styrofoams because the kids might drop it😂

CIF be like “This styrofoam has a dent in it. We’re gonna need a damaged gear statement.”😂

In the US Military, they trust you with multi million equipment, thousands upon thousands of dollars in ammunition, but they won't allow you to have a Toaster and Microwave or an Fryer cooker in your barracks room. 🙂

The USA puts a really angry 19 yo as the autoloader in tanks. Hes the most trusted guy on the crew.

During transportation, we keep the javalins targeting system in a pelican case. They are not as fragile as you think. They are made for war zones. (It's still made of plastic, so fragile compared to most weapon systems). The real use is as a face shield. When fired, the launch motor expelled the missile from the tube, the missile angles itself up, and then the flight motor kicks on. The flight motor, which is now pointed at the ground, kicks up a lot of debris and throw it directly at the gunners face. The foam catches the debris, protecting the face and hands, and it's replaceable. If you look, the foam actually only covers the parts where the targeting system has gaps.

It also protects the sight sensor. The entire missile tube is replaced, but the sight remains with the Soldier.

It's important to remember that the thermal cameras need to be cold. They take time to cool down, time and power. The more insulated the camera is the less power it consumes while running. Essentially it's a giant Styrofoam cooler with the added benefit of being drop protection.

Conscript proofing equipment just makes sense. Its like if a quarter of your store is seasonal temps; make your system robust and temp-proof.

S. Korea: "Dont drop expensive equipment."
U.S: "Here, take these weapons and do violence."

for the first point, it's because the CCD in Raybolt's CLU is uncooled (unlike Javelin) so it's a cheap way to keep the heat away from the CCD

Point 2 and 3 are moot

Just for the people who haven't ever touched anything like this, it's the same kind used on javelin and NLAW, the styrofoam is painted with a resin or something that makes it hard AF, easy way of adding sacrificial protection without much weight

To be fair, the styrafoam on the American and British launchers are in the case. You do not run around carrying this thing armed. You find a safe spot to launch the missile.
