You can't assume that they knew that the roof was anything but dirty. I work in I.T. and I wouldn't have any idea if my roof had an issue unless it was leaking! You, as the professionals, should do your due diligence to make sure that the roof you're working on is able to take the chemicals that you use. I wish you all the best and that family.

The roof you showed at the end is an organic shingle. It was outlawed and removed from the market after a class action lawsuit. Dont let those animals try to do you like that.

Before and after photos and make sure you have an official conversation about the state of the roof BEFORE using possibly damaging chemicals and get their approval. Or just refuse the job if it looks in disrepair to begin with. Tell them they have bigger concerns than a power wash.

As a roofer this Chemicals do not do this type of damage. This was already there and probably didn't know about it

I'm a roofer and my advice is do a better inspection before hand cause chances are if you could walk on it before and now you can put a tear off tool through the roof it can probably get baaed on you even if it's not you fault

Good lesson for small business owners to do due diligence while the quoting process is happening don’t be so thirsty for the close. Ask questions “when is the last time your had your roof replaced?” Etc. get on the top of the roof to inspect it. Not all customers are honest.
