Mistakenly Grabbing Molten Glass (For safety/hazard education, don’t try!) #shorts

This video is to demonstrate the dangers of the art of glassblowing. Meant purely for education/information and not to inspire others to perform dangerous acts. This video spreads awareness of how even experienced professionals can make mistakes and hurt themselves. It’s important to be aware of your surrounds and not become complacent in the workplace.

This week in the studio I was working with a customer when I burnt myself badly. I was distracted by the piece tipping over and without thinking I tried to pass the rod to my hand, grabbing the glass. I was treated for second degree burns at the hospital and I should make a full recovery in a few weeks

I remember when I was first learning the forge, there were a bunch of people online saying gloves only got in the way. I asked my teacher, and he was like "those people are morons." It wasn't long after that I grabbed a nearly glowing chunk of metal, leaving massive scorch marks on my gloves. Glad I listened to my teacher.
