Room temperature tap water does just as good with no chance of damaging your windshield

I was expecting a sudden crack the moment I saw hot water being poured on the frozen windshield

Alternatively they could just turn the engine on and wait 15 minutes. Or just use room temperature water so that an extreme temperature difference doesn’t cause faults in the glass.

don't worry about the cracking sounds. those are sounds of hope

Did this on my first car, which had a toughened windscreen. Poured on the hot water and the screen shattered. I had to drive to work wearing ski goggles and motorcycle gloves.
Expensive lesson.

Lmfaoo that scream 💀

You can hear the pain, agony and regret behind it. Funniest part of this video.

I used a nylon window cover that you closed the door over the ends to secure it in place. We got the rain, but temps stayed above freezing. The cover got saturated and the water wicked into the ends tucked inside. I came out to about an inch of water on the floorboards.

Pro tip from Sub-Zero Canada: cleaning alcohols do not freeze in the winter, and while they Mesa smell strong they will melt your ice for you. Add a few drops of dish soap to help make it stick to the ice instead of beading and running off.
A window cover is fine, but the ice you see in this video came from rain at 0° Celsius where water is sometimes water and sometimes ice. That means that the car was outside for sometime while it was raining, not while it was snowing. The water mostly would have dripped underneath this window cover, and would have made the cover stick to the windshield. Further making your job harder.

Honestly so smart to the blanket on the windshield if your in icy environment’s just put a tarp over your windshield a thin blue tarp at Home Depot’s is just underrated asf

Ice scraper works the best and are as cheap as $5. Also if your trying to use a liquid that's what winter rated washer fluid is for. Just put it in a a spray bottle.

Sorry but I've done this my whole life (50 years) and never had one window break but I don't use very hot water.Just warm water works fine but one time just for fun I was in a friends salvage yard when it was 5 degrees and we took scalding hot water from a coffee pot and poured it on three windshields just to see if they would break and none of them did.Its quite educational to all the people that say it will automatically shatter your glass. Now I'm sure if we were to do 30 cars at those temps one probably would end up busting but warm water works fast to remove freezing rain.

Cold water from your tap clears the screen straight away but you need to be quick with the wipers or it freezes back up really quickly. Trust me, I do this every winter before going to work and leaving work and it works perfectly. I've never cracked my windscreen.

I remember once it was so cold, I dumped lukewarm water on the windshield and in the 20 seconds it took me to get into the car and activate the wipers, the lukewarm water I threw on the windshield has already frozen over. lol
