How I Reversed My Pre-Diabetes | Kate Kowalczyk | TEDxDePereMiddleSchool

Kate was faced with a difficult decision in middle school - accept being pre-diabetic and steamroll ahead towards diabetes, or fight it. Kate, through her own struggle, decided that she was too young to have such a serious disease. This talk will inspire you to see how simple changes can make a big difference in your life.

Kate is an ordinary eighth grader. She enjoys drawing, reading books, and playing softball. In addition, she plays piano and trombone. When Kate grows up, although it’s unlikely that she ever will (humor intended), she wants to be a graphic designer.

"You have to treat each day like you are starting over." Excellent advice. Great talk!

Just went to the doctor yesterday and got blood work. I discovered I’m borderline pre diabetic and have high cholesterol. It’s definitely a motivator to get healthier.

Young Lady that was an "Outstanding" talk, I have just become a type 2 (Shock to me), so learning all of this at age 63 is very new to me. Please continue to do talks because people like me are out there listening.
Thank you.

I like what Kate said towards the end that if you screw up and have a bad day or two, don't throw the towel in and give up. Also, in addition to the items Kate talked about, I've found intermittent fasting to really help.

Great JOB. I notice that I have to give my clients very specific direction when it comes to food changes and I have to do so almost one food at a time. They are so married to what they ahve been told by the medical field at large that they often are unaware that a food is hiding chemicals, sugars or sweeteners. They were just told it was fine. Most of what I do is getting people to see the system for what it is. After that, they really get momentum going to reverse their own diabetes and see the food on the shelves in a totally different way. It takes a bit, but its worth it.

low carb works for me. I don't eat more than 30 carbs a day. once you lose all you want to you go up on carbs until you start putting it back on. stop and back down until you hold where you want to be. it works but you have to make it a life style.

Get a CGM prescription! That way, you can tell exactly what foods affect you as well as what exercise helps. In less than a month, I dropped from an A1C of 7.2 to 6.1 by eliminating the 4-5 bad foods (dried fruits, energy bars, processed packaged foods/soups, etc).

Stop eating sugar and eat only unprocessed/manufacturing foods from the middle of supermarket. Difficult but it works.
