Dear Kat and Ethan,

This one is an excellent tutorial. Our puppy is in the biting phase, and the current favourite is the ankle!

We have a new wire haired pointer (our second) and he will have the same temperament as the short haired. Your tutorials have ensured a smooth transition in Ottos first week at home, he is 8 weeks and we live in Switzerland.

Many thanks,
Helen

Great info, thanks for showing the various stages. I was only vocalizing which didn’t really work and my dog escalated to very hyper, leaving the room is what I needed.

We have a GSP puppy coming in 5 weeks. We are very excited. I have been watching a lot of your videos. All very excellent information and you guys format and execute your videos so well. I like how you ask if there are any questions at the end of your videos and are somewhat surprised that there a not. Well you explain thing so clearly in an easy to understand way that there is no need to ask question. Great work!

Fab piece - when I had puppies in the house (Alaskan Malamutes) I yelped (varying the intensity) or removed myself from the situation - just like this. Hopefully got a GSP puppy joining the family in about 9 weeks (COVID 19 restrictions) permitting so wanted to see a reminder of what to do! I’ve also been checking out your other puppy training vids

i have fostered puppies (two at a time) for the last few years and they always go through these steps when one is playing too rough with the other; the puppy being beaten up yelps and stops playing; if that doesn't work the puppy will start barking at the bully; if that doesn't work more often than not he will nip back at the bully rather aggressively. This is why the trainers that promote positive-only training are off the mark; dogs correct each other all the time and this is how they learn what to do and not to do.

Looking forward to trying this with my new puppy! What should we do when he's trying to jump at our face? It's a concern because he's doing it to my kids.

Does this work as well for a man who obviously has a lower voice? I would think that they'd react more to a high pitched "ouch" but am hoping that I'm wrong.

My GP puppy is 10 weeks old, he loves to ambush me from behind when playing, I do see a distinct demeanor change when I do the OW, he is however very persistent and keeps the ambush up when I attempt to walk away, hints or tips appreciated.

Is there an ideal place to do this type of play/bite training? (Ie. Outside, inside, small or large area).

After an intense play training session like that, I would have her up and out for potty. Then back for chew toy under supervision. I always supervise chew toys because puppies swallow anything and I avoid vet bills that way. I usually follow intense exercises with outside for a quick potty break, immediately after meals and before bed time and immediately upon waking. It's all one thing, play, bite training, no jumping training and potty training when they are little. Everything is an experience and everything lets puppy know what is expected and when. I use the same high pitched vocalizations you use and do it the same way. Bravo! You are on the way to a well mannered dog!

So should i only use toys for play then and not just my body? As it gets more aggressive when playing that way?

Thank you so much for the video.

We are working on this with our puppy. How do you work on this with the pup biting his new brother? I have a 10 month old springer (with nice springer long ears) that the pup likes to grab on to and old on for dear life! My springer loves playing with him but I am afraid of puppy doing damage or my springer getting a little too ruff when disciplining the pup.

Can you use treats to reinforce no biting behavior or will that train them to purposely bite you for a treat lol
