How to Fix a Running Toilet - Toilet Keeps Running

For a toilet that keeps refilling, you need to replace the gasket on the flush valve. It can be a flap or a round gasket. You need to know the style and the size. You have 2 sizes, a 2 inch and a 3 inch flush valve. Replacing the gasket will stop the toilet from running.

Wow! One of the three valves is mine... in three bathrooms. I didn't know how to correctly disassemble my Flush/Fill valve and spotted my particular valve on one video. Thank you so much. That was Easy! This house was completed in February of 1994.

Yes, you need to stop the leak as described. Perhaps why it appears to always be full is that there is a stand-tube that drains "overflow" whenever the water level rises above it.

Would have been nice to cover a dual flush leaking seal.

Hi, thanks for the video--very informative and straightforward. I just have one question:if water in the tank fills up kinda slowly, (due to low pressure, etc.), does it contribute to water leaking into the bowl? I am replacing all old parts of my toilet now.

Thank you for the helpful info!

Also, I enjoyed the accent (i.e. have = "hyeav", gasket = "gyeasket"). Made me smile. :)

From the the red or green style of flapper is the EASIEST thing to do yourself. DO NOT call a plumber or even a handyman to do this---it will take 10 min. tops, from start to finish. I did it myself a day before this post and am proud that I no longer have shimmering water in the toilet bowl. My water is metered so every drop costs money.

I'm not sure if there's a video already, but do you have or is there a video that you know of that show how to replace the actual tower itself? Do you have to remove the bowl or can it be unscrewed and replaced without removing the bowl? The tower piece broke off and of course I can replace the flush valve without it. Thank you for ANY help!

Hi. I am struggling with one of my toilets- It is a mansfield. I have replaced the valve ring and it is properly in place. When i turn the tank's tap on, the water leaks in the toilet bowl and naturally does not fill the tank. So I changed the entire flush valve yesterday - took the tank out and everything and put everything back in place- same problem. I don't have any leaks from the tank on the floor- its all in the toilet bowl. Everyone tells me it is to do with the valve ring but I don't know what I may be doing wrong. Please help this novice!!

ON A MANSFIELD TOILET WE CHANGED THE RED RUBBER GASKET, INSTALLED IT IN THE UPPER GROVE, MADE SURE IT WAS SEATED. BUT THE TOILET STILL LEAKS!! WHAT IS WRONG???

Mine has the gasket instead of the flapper

I changed the red seal and a new problem developed -- a running toilet. Thought the seal was faulty so got another one. Same problem -- running toilet. I cleaned the bottom of the tower and still running. What else should I do? Hate to call a plumber for something I feel should be an easy fix.

It would be nice to find a toilet that didn't need to be serviced every 5 years...
