How to fix a running toilet.
1. Check the chain (if your toilet has one) it may be too long and getting caught under flap, or too short and the flap can't close.
2. Check the flapper (may be worn out or has cracks, you can replace for under $5).
3. Check the the water level and overflow. Is the water level too high?
4. Adjust float to lower level of water.

Thank you! I’ve taken over the water bill and I was wondering why it was so high... a running toilet. This saved me a visit from the plumber and money every month.

You rock, girl! Guys sometimes make a big 15-minute This Old House type production out it, but you showed me how turning a simple screw could stop that infernal running toilet noise. And it only took 3 minutes. Thanks!

We had two bad toilets that keeps on going, but my looking on YouTube, I could not find the same interior toilet not until I came across your video.I got up and used the one downstairs, but i could hear the one up stairs running really bad, so after watching your video both were fixed, and it is 6 O'clock in the morning. Thank you, so much for the early morning fix!

Omg thank you so much! It was my chain. Somehow it moved and needed to be lowered like you stated. I watched a few videos and that issue wasn't mentioned. I tested the toilet twice now and I'm good to go. Thank you so much!

Thanks for saving me from calling a plumber. I used a screwdriver to lower the float and the problem was solved.

I have the same type of toilet (Mansfield), The flapper seems to be just fine but I've adjusted that screw for the float like playing with an old fashioned carburetor and damned if it still leaks the tiniest amount of water still in the bowl. If I turn the screw too far (down) it shuts off the water flow. In addition the float arm has an adjustable piece midway down the arm (it's two pieces) that you can raise or lower the float end. Still no good. I'm torn between either calling a plumber or digging a straddle trench in the back yard like in my old Marine Corps days.

For me, one of two things happen: 1. I'll adjust it so that the water level is below the overflow tube, then the toilet won't refill when I flush it, or 2. I'll adjust it, so they the water is level with the top of the overflow tube. Then, of course, the toilet will keep running.
