When I read about how some people have been recently forced to close down their businesses because of their refusal to contradict their beliefs, and verses like-

Revelation 12:17 Then the dragon became furious with the woman and went off to make war on the rest of her offspring, on those who keep the commandments of God and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And he stood on the sand of the sea.

I feel that the mark has more to do with rejecting the commandments of God, i.e., compromising our allegiance to Jesus.

the process of the mark mirrors the anointing of temple priests with their forehead and hand. it also seems like reverse tefillin, when one would wear tefillin and swear to submit fully to Hashem, but this seems like reverse.

Haha! I knew you were going to say that. There are certain things pertaining to salvation that we must be certain of. As you pointed out, if we remain certain that our allegiance is only to Him, then we don't really have to worry about the mark of the beast. It would be painfully in contrast to our alligiance. When it comes to the majors I've become more steadfast and clear in my beliefs. But when it comes to the minors, after 10 years of being a youth pastor and co-pastor, I find my answer more and more being, "I don't know."

The mark of the beast and the number of the beast are two different (but associated) things. The number is tied in with the AC's personal name. He is alive today. Most likely, he is Jared Kushner, who fulfills the prophesies telling us how the AC will initially come to power; also, his name in Hebrew gematria equates to six hundred sixty six. At this very moment, he is in Iraq speaking with its government. This summer, he will try to bring a peace agreement between Israel, the Palestinians and the Arab nations (many of which have indicated an interest in participating in the talks). Keep an eye on this man, he very well could be the AC.

We may not know exactly what it is, but we can know:
i. It will be issued by a false prophet working powerful false signs and wonders [2 Th 2], the intent of which is to bring worship to another (the beast)
ii. It will be related to commerce
iii. Those who do not receive it will be put to death

Here are a few questions that might help with the understanding. First, it says IN the right hand and IN the forehead! What is it that you can put in your hand and purchase something? Money? Credit Cards? Now. What is it that you can put IN your forehead?(The word, forehead symbolizes, The Mind!) Figures of number calculations? Remember this. Money in Germany was called MARKS! All money can also be called MARKS! An unjust weight is an abomination to the Lord! Money these days are unjust weights! Especially US money since they are really debt notes! If it is not gold or silver or something tangible to trade with then it is an unjust weight unless it can be redeemed for something of value like gold or silver. Am I right? Who really knows?! Remember. It is easier for a rich man to pass thru the eye of a needle than to enter into Heaven! Does it seem like you can use today's type of money to purchase anything one would WANT?(Thou shall not want!) When you can get what you want you have become attached to things of material value and easily become materialistic. There is more to this than one can easily explain. Mark of the beast. Who can find the beast? She's big! She's bad! She's wicked! She's sad! Who can make war with the beast? Folks. It's just something to think about!
