If you had your tooth extracted, you may be concerned about what to do next. Here's a simple checklist for the first few days 📝:

- Leave the office with dental gauze in your mouth, you need to bite it until you get home 😬. Then, examine it to check if you are not actively bleeding and no longer need to hold pressure or if a new gauze is required.
- Hold an ice pack on the side that was worked on for 20 minutes, remove it for 10 minutes, and then re-apply for another 20 minutes. ❄️🧊
- If you are no longer bleeding you can have soft food 🍚🍵. Avoid hard and crunchy food on the side where the tooth was extracted. 🌮🥜
- Avoid alcohol and smoking in the first 3 to 4 days. 🍺🚭
- Brush your teeth on the night of the extraction and rinse gently with just water. The next day, gently rinse the area with warm salt water. You can do this 2-3 times a day for the first 4-5 days. 🍶🧂
- Take all medications prescribed by your dentist. 💊

OK I’m sure I speak for many that I could really use instruction on how to brush my teeth after extraction. I understand it's important to do, but how? How do I not end up with toothpaste in the area or how close can I brush to the teeth next to the extraction site?

I got an extraction on Friday. Today is Monday and still having off and on again pain. The extraction itself was not painful at all. They put numbing cream on before the shot. I could barely feel the shot for just a few seconds. There was a little pressure when the tooth came out, nothing that was concerning. If you need to go to the dentist, go sooner than later. I speak from experience.

Had my upper wisdom tooth removed 2 days ago. Still dribbling saliva & I’m afraid to spit or suck it back in, so I’m drooling on a towel here and there.

Such good advice, really dentists are there to help you! I'm still feeling discomfort after 4 days, not pain. Really, looking at how much a tooth brush and paste is, they're good options to _use everyday!_

It was extremely traumatic I thought she’d never get it out, I had 8 injections as it was infected. The dentist did take my gauze out after 3 mins as it wasn’t bleeding. But bloody hell does it still hurt even with ibuprofen, paracetamol and codeine. £400 quid and a tooth lighter.

Is it normal to have severe pain after two weeks of extraction?
I may have had a Dry Socket …
How to I avoid this if another tooth needs to be extracted?

I had both bottom wisdom teeth removed a week ago today. I went back 2 days after for severe pain in my left ear. They said I had a dry socket and put some paste on it and sent me on my way. Today, a week later, that severe pain in my ear is back full force and no pain meds are helping it. I also feel like I can’t hear from that ear. I don’t know what to do at this point 😣

I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed today at once, bottom two werent bad but holy hell the top 2 were incredibly painful in my case. Not sure if there wasnt enough novocaine used in the upper areas or if it started wearing off by the time he got to those two. Anyways he finished up, threw in some stitches and gauze and the dental assistant noticed me shaking and soaked in sweat, she asked if i was feeling pain during the extractions and boy was I ever for those top two teeth. Few hours later though after taking some ibuprofen i feel better. Gums and jaw are a little sore though.

Just make sure you take the pain medication as precribed. If it says every 6 hoirs then make sure its every 6 hours.

Dr. Steinweg, I'm wondering if it's necessary to get dental implants after extraction? Found out from kriss that jawbone recession can occur after tooth removal, and now I'm a bit hesitant to get my tooth pulled 😫
