How to Deburr copper pipe

preview_player
Показать описание
Deburring copper pipe or any metal pipe is important, as the burr can cause turbulence in the pipe, resulting in erosion of the pipe wall. External pipe burrs also need removing, especially if using push fit fittings, as the O rings can be damaged, if burrs are present.

As it got towards the end I was worrying about the copper falling into the pipe - your solution was ingenious. Brilliant video - thank you!

BRILLIANT! Well worth watching everyone. BTW if anyone's redecorating this spring Ultimate's got a great video on degreasers which, simply, is a must watch. Thanks for this upload Ultimate and God Bless.

If you haven't got a brush like that there are other substitutes to catch the burrs. Simplest is toilet paper. Take several joined sheets from the roll and twist them as you push them in to the pipe, keep going for a few inches but don't force it solid - we are only trying to catch a few burrs! Push just below the end. Use a screw driver or anything else at hand (a pencil) to hook the end of the paper and pull slow back out. Worst that happens is it breaks off - you need a longer tool to fish the remains out. If a little bit is left in it wont matter, the paper will slowly dissolve and come out the taps or other termination.

Other (better?) alternatives are cotton wool, makeup remover pads or bit of sponge. Attach a bit of string if you're really worried about not being able to get back out. If you have the more common barrel type deburr tool then you can drop the string in the pipe too and grab it with needle noses after.

I’m a bit late with this video, as I had far too many beers last night in Clitheroe. Please go easy on me 😂

Hi Andy, the brush on the inside is a great idea, pipe slice work ok but they do leave the inside burr reducing the inside diameter, cheers mate, hope your all doing well, stay safe, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.

Those drain grime removal brushes are great for cleaning radiators, you might need to modify them slightly but they work great!

Brilliant! Thanks so much for the idea of the drain grime removal brush!.... I need to cut a pipe in situ and I was wondering how I'm going to prevent the deburr waste from falling down the pipe irretrievably -- I *love* this solution, thanks so much

I like the idea of that nylon brush with melted part for easy removal. What a great idea!

As for deburring, if one doesn't have a very good tool on hand for that, what about using a Dremel tool with a cone-shaped fine grinding stone to deburr?

Just one thing, that copper line isn't pipe. It is tubing.

Does the burred edge have to be dead smooth? I’ve noticed that your tool by making a scraping noise is actually ‘skipping’ as it cuts. Are you removing the sharp flackie bits or are you completely removing that inner proud rim?

Sorry to ask you another question. I have to remove a baxi brazilia wall heater with giant flue. What should i use to fill the hole please? I'll need a structure inside I think to give the hole more stability. Or should i just show concrete in it. Many thanks.

Will a utility knife or round file do an acceptable job?

Every time I use the deburing tool it's a single spiral shaving. Can't you just pluck the shavings with the same tool or simply tip the pipe?

I just put compression fittings and didn't debur the copper. Should I redo or leave ?

I'm going to try and turn the water on just a little bit to flush the pipe.
