Your analysis is always so awesome. I read Insomnia MOSTLY because another Dark Tower reader told me I HAD to...So, I read it right before I recently re-read the Dark Tower for the first time (By the way, I enjoyed my re-read about 100x more than my initial trip through).. Not to heap more onto your Dark Tower load... but if you haven't read Talisman or its sequel, Black House, you might want to think about those too. They're pretty big tie-ins to the dark tower. (AND they're a lot of fun)

I love your in-depth review!! It makes me even more excited to read Insomnia. I haven't read the Dark Tower series yet but I will probably read it before reading Insomnia. I recently read Pet Semetary for the first time and I loved his take on grief and loss, it made me very emotional!

I haven't read any of these two books because I'm reading King's works in publication order and I'm currently reading The Stand. But I'm really looking forward for your Stephen King-related videos in the future! :)

I have not consumed Insomnia, but now I will have to at least add my request to get the audiobook on Libby.
Upon rewatching Captain Marvel Tuesday I came to a crystalized realization: If you have not been Gaslit, that story is foreign to you; if you are gaslighting someone that story is illuminating something you probably NEED to keep etherial & if you have been gaslit that story can show how your abuser is keeping you from your truth. There are sleeping binary stars awakening & we will be better for it.

If Insomnia ended at the actual climax I'd say the ending is as dumb as needful things, but the actual last 25 pages are fantastic. And sadder than cujo, in my opinion

I'm sure you already know this, but Inspmnia is also related to IT and I really loved seeing that Mike Hanlon is doing well after defeating Pennywise. It was like seeing an old friend! You may have read IT alresdy but I really hope you review it (unabridged version, the newer copies have some scenes cut out) IT also has DarkTower references. That being said, I loved Insomnia. I loved that the characters were older (and yes, 60 is NOT THAT OLD) I also loved the Dark Tower connections as well. I agree with everything you said about the political opinions and such. Great video

Like you, I read Insomnia after I had already finished the Dark Tower, and got pretty excited when I started to see those connections popping up.

If you're planning on reading the connected pieces when re-reading the DT series, I would also recommend tossing in Hearts in Atlantis (particularly the novella "Low Men in Yellow Coats"), the short stories "Everything's Eventual" and "The Little Sisters of Eluria"...and 'Salem's Lot (obviously). Those all tie in pretty heavily with the Dark Tower series and I always include them when revisiting the series. A lot of people would also include The Talisman and Black House but I'm not as familiar with those.

I am not finished, but i would say this is the most underrated of their collection.

The fact that people criticized this based on Ralph and Lois's age is crazy to me. I know plenty of people in their 60's who are great, and personally I think of their own age being a potential disadvantage as another factor that adds in to the suspense for me. Also having read this for the first time after i had finished the Dark Tower series I was captivated by it and finished it in 3 days. I intend to re-read the full Dark Tower series in a different order, but so far everything else I've read that connects to it (The Talisman and Black House come first to mind) I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The facial expression when you say "alpha males" cracked me up. I bet your "I am the downfall of society" statement would send shivers down Stephen King's spine! Please, remain a woman with ideas. Your discussions are awesome.

I just finished Insomnia as well and I agree very much with you, this is a political piece of literature. And I really enjoyed Ralph's (and I guess King's in a way) point of view. I also was really interesting in the point of view of the policeman, about feminists trying to aggravate every situation they can. It is sometimes kinda scary to tell this because, well exactly that, you are scared you are going to get attacked. But the point of view of the policeman wasn't that women should not be feminists. It was that extremism is never a good thing, whether you are pro life or pro choice. It was a refreshing character in my opinion.

Other than that I really enjoyed my read. The all "auras" speech was a bit wacky at point but it makes the story so goddamn enjoyable. You don't feel like you are reading a political piece.

I've never read a Stephen King novel. My friend started reading some of King's work two years ago and made me watch It Chapter One with her. I'm not sure I'll ever read King horror isn't my genre. I'll see how I feel about it after I've read Jurassic Park. As for the Dark Tower I want to tackle the Wheel of Time first.
