/// HOW TO KNIT: A FREE BEGINNER SERIES ///

The knit stitch is the most basic and fundamental stitch in knitting. After all, it’s the namesake of the craft we’re learning. Master the knit stitch and you, my friend, are a bonafide knitter!

In this video, I’ll walk you through the knit stitch.

Like most skills, knitting takes time to perfect. You probably won’t get the hang of it on your first try. You probably won’t even get it on your second try. The important thing is to keep trying.

Why?

You’ve heard the concept of “muscle memory,” right? It’s the idea that the more you repeat a movement, the more it becomes second nature. Because the movement is controlled by your subconscious mind instead of your conscious mind, you don’t need to think through each step of a movement. Without thinking, you can just do it. That’s muscle memory!

So, don’t fret if you don’t get the knit stitch right away. Most people don’t. The more you practice, the faster muscle memory will kick in. Before you know it, you’ll be knitting with your eyes closed. You have muscle memory to thank for that!

You’ll find tutorials and guides for making a Slipknot, Cast On, Knit Stitch and Cast Off. These techniques form a sturdy foundation for knitting.

I can't see what she's doing through my tears

Edit: after 1 year and a half knitting had become my greatest hobby and I've knitted lots of things . I believe in you, just keep trying and you'll get it eventually :]

You have no idea how big I was smiling when I made my first successful stitch, or how loud I screamed when it immediately slipped off my needle

3 Tips for Beginner Knitters:

1. IGNORE THE TAIL. I had this urge to move the tail out of the way, which was a big mistake. Don't move it, just ignore it, and it'll move onto the lowest stich on your "knitting" needle.

2. KEEP GOING. In the beginning, it's going to look really weird, and won't look like knitting. If you keep going, it'll look a lot better. Trust me on that one.

3. DON'T PULL HARD. This one is important. If you pull hard when you're knitting on each stich, it'll get really tight and won't allow you to keep knitting. If you give it a nice, gentle tug, it'll work out fine.

I hope these helped, and happy knitting! :)

as a long time crocheter who found some cheap plastic 4mm knitting needles left behind on a table at a pub yesterday and decided on a whim to learn to knit, this video and your long tail cast on video have been super amazing and I now have a small, far too tight, slightly uneven swatch. thank you.
i am still getting used to holding the yarn in my right hand and not my left 😂

I just found this channel and I love it. My mom was a knitter, but I never picked it up. She passed last year (2022) and I found all her yarn and needles when cleaning out her house. I didn't want to get rid of them as I remember watching her knit on many occasions. So, I brought everything home and it's just been sitting around my house. I decided on a whim to see if I could learn how and found this channel. I watched how to do the casting stitches and now am working on my first row. I am so excited!!!

After crying for a good five minutes and rewatching twenty times how the stitch goes on the other needle, I finally understand. Thank you for making this video, it’s not you who made it confusing, it’s just that knitting in general seems so confusing.

I just wanted to leave a quick thank you to this channel for teaching me how to knit. At the start of the pandemic I had never knitted before. I have now knitted items for my family members, who love and use them often. It’s very gratifying to create something useful, and I have such pride in my creations.

I 100% cried over this (I only have small needles and thin yarn rip) but holy moly the feeling of accomplishment once it clicked was euphoric! Thank you for making these tutorials, they're great to follow along to

As a teacher, I can say that your directions are excellent! You repeat each step several times and inform your viewers that it is fine to have difficulty. Great job!

I am a crocheter. Have been for a decade. I have tried to learn knitting off and on and just never could get it. I came across your channel on Sunday and by Thursday I’ve finally got the hang of it. I never thought I’d be able to learn. THANK YOU for your wonderful tutorials!!! It’s a good day when I can add a new skill under my belt!!

Okay you guys... I was going insane trying to do this yesterday... But I was using waaay too small of needles (aluminum) and my yarn was way too thin too... I got some thicker yarn, and bigger bamboo needles (I had to get 8mm because that's all the store had) and I totally got it tonight! So listen to what she says and use the thicker yarn and bigger bamboo needles! It makes all the difference for when you're starting out!
