Being part of an owners club or forum can also help. Insurance companies will often apply an "enthusiast's discount" so it's always worth a mention 😉

I agree with all your tips a little advice for anyone thinking about blackbox. I got a 1.6 seat Leon as my first car i had passed 2 months prior and were looking for qoutes, i could only get a blackbox insurance for just under 2k. It was with hastlings smartmiles, after a couple of months my points started to drop even tho i was very careful, my app that i could view my driving score e.g. speed, acceleration, breaking ( you will never make your breaking score good its literally impossible), time of day. I couldn't drive between 10mp and 5am, well i could but only a limited amount of times, if my points went under 40 points out of 100 on my overall points they gave me 1 warning and then youd have to get it above 40 points in 70 miles or they cancel it. So after 2 months my app wouldn't let me into the account saying i put the wrong password in but i had saved the password to the app so i never had to actually type it, so it couldn't be wrong, this meant i couldn't watch my driving score and see how i was doing. About a month later they emailed and then rang me in quite a threatening manner explaining how my points had dropped had dropped and saying they needed to improve or they'd cancel my insurance, i told them about the password and the app so they sent me a new password ( the same fucking one ) so it didn't let me in for about 5 months i gave up and randomly tried it one day and it let me in. At the end of the year i told them i was chaning insurance company as i had enough of there BS and then all of a sudden my points started to drop? i didnt drive the car for the last month as i was worried they would cancel it and say it was my fault fucking up future insurance quotes. Not to mention its way more dangerous to be on backbox, i was always watching the speedo more than the road! doesn't sound very safe to me as i had only just passed.

Well its not a question of legitimacy, it's a question of how much do you value your car. I drive an engine swapped sleeper and save a killing on tax and insurance.

Black boxes are seemingly so hit and miss, but from my experience they're not a problem at all.
Go for the Admiral Littlebox. It doesn't limit your driving hours, doesn't fine you or give you penalties, it just shows a happy or sad face on the Admiral app. I had it on my car for my first year of driving and it saved me around £500 from the next lowest quote, and I drove like an absolute prick all year long. Sad face after sad face, but Admiral didn't care, no emails or phone calls.
Upon renewal yes my premium was a few hundred quid higher, than what I paid but I was past my first year of driving so lots of other insurers offered me competitive non-blackbox quotes so I moved over to Ford Insure and saved a fortune (turns out Ford Insure is owned by Admiral lmao).
Plus Admiral won't share your blackbox data so you've got nothing to worry about it gaining you a bad reputation or anything like that.
I just wish I'd paid more attention when they fitted the box to my car so I could throw the bloody thing out #weightsavings

Not sure if it’s still possible but back in the day “ghost” insurance was a great way of starting up NCB an still able to drive a car....down side you need 2 cars to it

A tip a guy from Adrian Flux told me was... I wanted to get my insurance down and my car was valued at 2k I said to the agent its only worth a grand he said don't under value your car if he valued my car at the time at 1k the insurance would go up. I tried it later on comparison site cars under 1500 in value started going up but if you valued at 2000 the insurance went down.
Always declare mods. My wife had her insurance cancelled as the agent saw her driving the car. It was cancelled not because of exhaust, suspension, tints or wheels, it was cancelled because of stickers not big ones just small ones advertising seatcupra.net about 10 inches wide lol. I just find insurance companies very silly with mods. I told my wife to just phone Adrian flux they laughed and got her a better price than the standard car price. Ever since they have offered a beat the price deal.

There is zero point getting a black box for a hot hatch like a Fiesta ST. There’s plenty of fun to be had with a low powered cheap car, just wait until you are slightly older and are more experienced

so i bought my first car on new years day, living in manchester insurance is high, my insurance on my 2005 1.3 toyota yaris was £1769 for 3k annual mileage with a box, well well boys, morethan completely fucked me over and my isnurance hasn't gone down much and i have to have a box for my second year of driving on a 1.3 car, any other car that i want to insure i have to have a box, i should've just waited a extra year rather than getting insured as blackbox didn't do anything to my premiums, i'm still in my thousands

They are good but when it comes to a claim and it’s not your fault. they are rubbish it took nearly a year for it to be settled with me not to be blamed and it goes threw solicitors Winn solicitors to be exact not Greenlight there selves so if you go threw them just a heads up I would recommend Adrian flux for young drivers

Remember cheapest is not always the best and also a lot of the so called specialist modified specialist sometime dont always have the most reputable underwriters do your homework and ask plenty of questions thats why a broker such as Green light is worth talking to as not only can they shop around on your behalf they can tailor the policy to you.

I’m 22 With a 65plate 1.8TSI Polo GTI, 4 years no claims and got both my parents on my insurance as named drivers for their 25+ years experience each and that brings down my premiums about £100 at least every year and I’m currently paying £530 for the year
