In this video I review an aspect of Red Yeast Rice that many people miss: the "cholesterol lowering" ingredient is the same as livastatin (Mevacor(r)).

Well, this explains the use of red yeast rice and leg cramps at night. Thank you! I quit taking a statin for that very reason!

Like you, and as a Natural Health professional, I refuse to take statins, however, my poor Dr. who is a darling and works with me, not easy, would like to see better cholesterol numbers so for the yearly blood cholesterol test, I am trying some Red Yeast Rice (Walmart) and adding some CQ10 for good measure. It is all a "show" for the Health Plan. I do not believe Cholesterol is the bad guy, here. I am trying it for a couple of weeks before the test and also cutting back on eggs and steak, my faves.
Would like to get back to you and report.
Thank you!

I tried Red Yeast Rice and it made my knees hurt just as much as Crestor.

Years ago when I was first diagnosed with high cholesterol (307), the dr wanted to put me on a statin, but I asked if I could do it with diet and exercise instead. He gave me 4 months to do it, and when it was checked after that, I had gotten it down to 135. He looked at the number and asked me if I knew what red yeast rice was. He thought I had cheated by taking red yeast rice, bc he couldn't believe I had actually done it with diet and exercise!! I told him that yes, I knew what it was, but no, I had not taken any, bc it is a statin, except an unregulated form where you'd never know your dosage. Plus, why would I cheat, when I really wanted to know if diet and exercise could legimately work? I think he did believe me that I hadn't, but he was suspicious initially! (And NO, I had not taken any!!)

Lovastatin, what a horrific drug! The last 3 years I took it, I had memory problems, pain, global amnesia, vomiting, diherria, and finally quit. Now, Dr. is hounding me to take it but I won't.

I tried taking this, I researched and found the brand with the near prescription dose. Oh the pain. I never thought a pill could make me feel so bad. I tried again about a month later and had the flu symptoms with the pain. My numbers are really bad but I just can't use this stuff.
