As an Irish person i can confirm that only WE are allowed to complain about the weather here!

I am currently in North Texas in up to 107 degrees Fahrenheit and no rain. If I ever make it to Ireland you will not get me out of the rain screaming and dancing with joy!

As a Dubliner currently living in Florida, I can confirm all of this to be accurate!! We are moving back to Ireland soon and I have told my American wife to be aware of all of these things!! Loved the video.

Good Advice and Reminders. It's really about 2 things: 1. Know the History of the place and 2. Respect the People.

I'll never forget the time I was working for an Irish company in San Diego. We had a teleconference with the people back in the home office. Jokingly, I asked, "How is the weather over there?" One of the guys replied, "Well, we don't really have "weather" here. It's just a series of overcast days interspersed with a day that's not fully cloudy."

I've been told to never order an Irish car bomb at a bar in Ireland. They'd tell you, that you wouldn't order a 9/11 at a bar in New York City

Being from Northern Ireland I have seen a lot of tourists do the opposite of what is told in the video. A group of young tourists visiting the Titanic Quarter in Belfast remarked “why build something about a ship that sank”. Very sound advice Walter. Need more people to follow it!

I went to Ireland about 4 years ago and my first experience was with a Customs Officer upon landing. The funniest, greatest guy to begin my trip in Dublin. He said: "just some rules in Ireland, you Americans drive on the wrong side so beware, green means go, red means stop" and so forth. The people have been about the nicest most helpful among my trips to Europe. Beer was great in a pub called L. Mulligan Grocer, it had a cash book log from 1916, ambiance was great, food was good and beer was amazing. I always tell people that the best carrots I've had were in Ireland. It's a beautiful place with amazing people. It's just a matter of as said in this video, showing respect and being sensitive of issues that affect or have affected the locals throughout their history.

Also, if you go Ireland to honor someone who has passed, don’t be shy to share that with locals you chat with after a few drinks. Not only will they appreciate you honoring a fellow Irish, but they might legitimately want to know about the person you are honoring.

As an Irish person, I can confirm this is all true.
As a side note, I’d like to add that you shouldn’t assume you’ve seen Ireland from just going to one county. Every single county in Ireland has its own culture, it’s own history and in some cases it’s own dialects of Irish. Every single place in Ireland is different. It’s like 32 countries. I live in Longford, and to me Dublin is a weird, alien place with a completely different culture to what I’m used to. You can’t see Ireland in one trip, don’t think that you can.

Very good advice Mark from an Irish follower, you are very tuned in to local mindset every where you go! P.S my son in law is American and he loved it so much he lives here.

On the converse, I was on holiday in USA about 10 years ago and had the absolute pleasure to be 'educated' by 2 Americans about 'The Troubles'. They were wrong and I told them so. They insisted I did not know what I was talking about, even after I told them that I am a child of Belfast, born in the 1970s and have lived in Northern Ireland all my life! Just adorable.

Fair play to you for calling these things out. You hit the nail on the head. Just a small thing. I was in my favourite cafe in Smithfield, Dublin yesterday and eight American middle aged people took a long table. They were playing cards and had bought two large bottles of sparkling water between them. How cheap can you get!!!

Great video as always, thanks Mark! Another point i would make is don't be comparing everything to back home. You're in a different country, embrace it!!

another thing connected to the troubles: DO NOT order an "irish car bomb" at a pub and expect to receive anything but a confused look or a hit to the face. extremely insensitive. you can try irish slammer, or irish bomb shot instead, but this is not a standard drink on the island.

Pretty solid advice. Like any travel, know your company and be able to read people. Saying the wrong thing about the troubles/the north can get me in trouble and I'm Irish, so just be careful. Best advice is to side step the issue and live your life and enjoy the island of Ireland, it is beautiful.
