Im Irish and can confirm that this is a very accurate and balanced account of visiting Ireland as a tourist. We don't get as much rain as many people imagine but it is wise to be preparedfortheodd shower or wet day. I drive a lot in mainland Europe. They drive on the right there. I agree. After the first hour driving on the side you are not used to, your brain accommodates and it becomes second nature. Enjoy our beautiful country and our wonderful welcoming people.

As a Dubliner I can absolutely agree with avoiding the Temple bar area completely. Overpriced tourist trap & not a fair representation of Dublin.

To read the comments and they are all positive! 🍀When I first started traveling to Europe, I watched videos of "what not to do in [insert country here] and was upset by the number of comments from people about how much they dislike Americans. And then you read the amazing comments here by the Irish and this is why they are the friendliest people on this planet! I loved my trip to Ireland. This is the first country where strangers would start conversations with me (I'm a solo traveler in my 50's). I know us Americans get picked on a bit about this but we are super proud of our Irish heritage even if it was 3 generations back which is my case.

The first hour of driving is spot on. I rented a car because you told me to! By the end of the week I was good. But that first hour in Dublin in dark and rain was a baptism in fire!

As an Irishman I really appreciate the positive comments made about Ireland. I'm always paranoid that Americans will eventually get over their affinity for Ireland but while they seem happy I'll not try get in their way. I think half of what Americans enjoy about Ireland is the positivity and excitement they bring.

Ireland is one of those countries that always make you feel like home even if you aren't Irish

I'm delighted to see all the American tourist's back in Ireland again. I love the banter and the one thing that stands out about American people is you're great listener's and polite. You're very complimentary about our infrastructure, Ireland is getting better and better. Ye also don't mind driving for 4 hours to get somewhere, 2 and a half hour drive and over is a long haul for us 😂👍

As an irish person it always breaks my heart a little bit when people come all the way to ireland and dont leave dublin. Please please, rent a car and get out. The driving and the country roads are great, get a little lost on a country road and find amazing views, go to a traditional music session in a village pub. Get out of dublin. You'll spend one day and one night there anyway with your flights, that's about enough.

Just got back from my first ever visit to Ireland and it was a dream. The people are A++++, did Ring of Kerry, Cork, Cobh in cloudless, sunny weather, and the beer/food was perfect. Kind of mad my ancestors left! 😆

If you go to kiss the Blarney Stone, I would suggest giving yourself a couple extra hours, so you can explore the castle, and the castle grounds. They have several acres of beautifully manicured gardens.

Great and accurate review, I’m Irish.

One thing I’ll say is about rain, is that in the past few years, rain isn’t as prevalent as people make it out. I quite enjoy the rain, particularly in Autumn, Winter as it sets a great moody atmosphere to the country and honesty with the right gear, rain isn’t as troublesome as you think.

Weather wise, I think the biggest issue is wind and overcast days. We get lots of wind being on the edge of the Atlantic. Our average weather is windy with grey skies but the rain actually seems to have stopped for a lot of the year now and particularly in summer our climate has improved, we often get spells of hot and calm weather for much of the summer and weather that’s just a coincidence or global warming related I’m not sure

But if you come any other time of the year, just be wrapped up for the wind more so than the rain I would say, the wind often carries a cold chill for half the year which is my biggest gripe about living here, particularly in those coastal areas you visit a beautiful beach on the west coast on a nice sunny day but it could be impossible to enjoy it at times because the wind is so cold

Great review Wolter

The place I would recommend visiting and doing a guided tour is Glasnevin Cemetery in Dublin if you want to learn about Irish history it's the place to go.

Finally someone who says Ireland is not expensive! Everyone tells me it's so expensive but if you plan ahead, it's affordable. Get breakfast and lunch at a supermarket and limit your beers at the bar and it's pretty cheap!

I live in Fermanagh in Northern Ireland. I randomly stumbled upon your videos and they're such a brilliant representation of what Ireland has to offer.

Keep up the great work.

I can’t believe that video was ten years ago. Thanks Mark and family for always having kind words about our little country and being so informed. It means a lot that someone is willing to put in so much effort to offer tourist such a multidimensional take on visiting here. I’m sure you know we’re used to seeing the “leprechaunised” version usually.

I always say for visiting Dublin, don’t spend longer 20% of your trip there. It’s a nice city but at the end of the day it’s just another European capital, it lacks a metro (clunky mismatched LUAS & Dart don’t count) & it’s expensive. Other cities in Ireland can offer a similar cosmopolitan taste especially Galway & Cork. So if you enjoy cities you can also visit those, which have great food scenes, nightlife & shopping also

Thanks for the update.
I've never been myself though my father was Irish. He was a CPA but he also sang in the Starlight Theater. He played the fiddle and sang Irish songs for his kids. He yearned to be a farmer on the land.
My wife is Irish / Lebanese. Our half Irish daughter did on her lonesome just what you recommended a few years back; flew to Dublin, got the car and headed immediately to Doolin. I warned her Lisdoonvarna was on. She steered clear of that. After checking out the Cliffs and heading down the coast she stayed in a very nice rural Inn outside Killarney. She walked the Gap of Dunloe ( ran some of it to make the ferry crossing). Jesus, Mary & Joseph, she loved it all.
As she tells it #1 was, as you said, the Irish! And Dingle! She had a wonderful time pubbing in Dingle. She loves seafood and their's is as fresh as it gets.
