When it comes to your career or dreams, the single worst piece of advice anyone can give you is to "follow your passion!"

Love this. And I know a lot of people won't, because they want to believe in "the Secret." They don't want to hear that they actually need to DO something. I just finished the book, "Everything is Figureoutable, " and despite over 2K+ 5-star reviews, I thought it was empty fluff. It's one of those rah-rah, you-can-do-it-if-I-did-it books, and passion is frequently mentioned, along with all the other platitudes that fill most self-help books. This is my first stumble onto Mel Robbins, and I find this a refreshingly honest take on the tired old phrase of, "Find Your Passion!" I'm going to listen to some more stuff by her.

My parents want me to be successful, but only by what they think is best for me, so I'm living by their standards & not by mine. If there's something that sparks my curiosity or interest, they turn it down either because they dont see me doing it, I won't be able to make enough $$$ to survive on my own, or they want me to focus on what I went to college for--my degree, which I choose randomly. So I am obligated to stick with my field even though I don't want to, while also spending this time trying to pay off Student loans. I'm too afraid to tell them anything else I may be curious about without them judging me.
