summary for myself:
questions to ask yourself:
1.What skills do you want to be using? What skills are you good at? Find the crossover (Example: teamwork, leadership, analyzing data, problem solving, writing, etc)
2. What do you want to get out of the work? (Making a difference, variety, autonomy, etc)
3. Working environment? (City office, practical, outdoors, using your body, entrepreneur, big international company?)

-try making a list of careers you've always wanted and try them out one by one
-career is like dating, very few of us end up marrying the first person that you kiss or the first person you ever dated. it should be based on knowledge and experience instead of assumptions and hearsay, expectations.
-Try the job when it’s the WORST time (e.g. farming, in January, or accounting at the end of year, etc)

Become an expert in a skill/skills, rather than an expert in an industry. I love this!!

This was the talk I never knew I needed, constantly my mom would be on my case about getting a masters having a specific profession but I never felt like that was who I was, she wanted me to aim high or reach my potential, while I wanted different experiences in everything and we still bump head because of it, she calls it lazy, while I didn't have a name for it and now I do, its called being a wide achiever. Thank you so much

"We marry our first career". A concept I had not been privy to until now. It makes sense to me. Eyes are a little more open now.

You should consider that most people settle for jobs they don't like because of financial reasons. I wish you could have addressed that. Great talk though.

thank you so much! I've been stressing about this ever since I turned 18, I've always thought that I need to know what I'm going to do (long term wise) right there and then, but I realized now that it takes time, and getting out of your comfort zone to really fine out what you truly love. Making my list now, again, thank you.

This is wonderful.

I'm a bridge in the generations between the 45 year veteran and the gig worker

This talk was very refreshing after years of judgement from my parents!

This was so inspiring. Hearing that you don’t just have to do one job for you life from someone with actual experience was so comforting and nice to hear. Made me feel valid in a way I’m not sure I have before.

Insightful talk. Thank you! It would be also extremely helpful if you could tell us how you handled pressure by parents, family members, friends, society in general, self-criticism due to the thoughts and principles regarding work that we were raised at, and the financial burdens while exploring and figuring out the type of a career that you'd like to follow.

This talk was INCREDIBLE! I hope Emma Rosen comes here periodically to read these comments. I have been trying to work out what direction to take, what to study but I have been stuck with so many possible ideas... I feel like crying after hearing this. Thank you for sharing your story, you're truly helping so many people. Bravo!

🦋that’s why it’s so important to find what makes you happy. Life is to short not to be happy waking up

I’ve had 5 jobs in the 7 years since graduation. Each of these jobs has allowed me to discover what I’m capable of and what I like doing best. I realised I liked working with numbers, so I’m doing a few accountancy courses with the view to being an accountant.
