I never used to care about my gut health, but it turns out it's super important. I recently spoke to Sophie Medlin on my podcast Deep Dive so I wanted to share all the useful advice I picked up from here. So this video is all about the science of gut health and what we can do to look after it. Enjoy x

IMPROVE GUT HEALTH:
5 THINGS TO ADD:
1) Aim for 30 Diff Plants/wk.
(4-5 Plants/day)
2) Aim for Variety over Consistency of Diet.
3) Aim for 30g of Fibre everyday
(5 Serves Fruits & Veges, 2 meals w wholegrains, nuts & seeds snacks)
4) Take Probiotics.
5) Aim for 2 portions of Oily Fish/wk.
(Salmon, Mackerel, Sardines, Flaxseed, etc)

5 THINGS TO AVOID:
6) Cut down on Red Meat.
(Limit to 3 Portions Red Meats/wk)
7) Avoid Processed Food
8) Avoid Artificial Sugars
9) Avoid Diet Fads & Detoxes.
10) Avoid Counting Calories.

2:21: 🧠 The gut-brain connection plays a significant role in overall health, impacting mental health and physical well-being.
7:08: 🥦 Eating a high-fiber diet is important for promoting good bacteria in the body, and there are various ways to increase fiber intake.
9:07: 🐟 Eating oily fish and taking a smart probiotic can improve gut health and brain function.
11:45: 🥗 Processed foods containing additives and preservatives can disrupt the natural bacteria in our gut and cause inflammation and other health problems.
13:56: 🥦 Following a gluten-free diet may be important for those with gluten intolerance or celiac disease, but it does not provide significant health benefits for the general population. Counting calories is also not effective for gut health.

Fermented food (kefir, kombucha, sauerkraut, sourdough bread, etc) are also beneficial to gut health.
