CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Stauffenberg (Tom Cruise) and his co-conspirators are captured, and Fromm (Tom Wilkinson) sentences them to death.

FILM DESCRIPTION:
At the absolute height of World War II, German generals hatch a daring plan to assassinate Adolf Hitler and effectively render the German war machine impotent. Directed by Bryan Singer, Valkyrie stars Tom Cruise as Colonel Claus von Stauffenberg, the real-life mastermind behind the elaborate plot known as Project Valkyrie: a plan to assassinate Hitler and overthrow his government from the inside. Stauffenberg has been a loyal soldier and an asset to the Reich for his entire military career, but after losing an eye, a hand, and three fingers in an Allied bombing, he reaches a breaking point. The destructive madness that his country is unleashing on the world has become too terrible for the colonel to stand silent. He joins the resistance movement -- a treasonous act, punishable by death -- and risks his life and the life of his family for the chance to change history. Comprised of high-ranking officials working in secret, the German Resistance has access to the inner workings of the government and military, putting them in the perfect position to dispatch the dictator and then use his own official contingency plan to seize power -

One notable guy was "spared": Fabian von Schlabrendorff, a former lawyer whose "trial" was scheduled for 3 February 1945. However, thanks to a bombing raid-induced dislodging of a ceiling beam revoking Judge Roland Freisler's breathing license, and also conveniently destroying his criminal record as well, Schlabrendorff dodged execution by the skin of his teeth and was later rescued by the Allies. After the war, he would go on to become a judge.

"I'd like a pistol, for personal reasons."
*John Wick's everyone in the room*

The officer standing to Gen. Fromms left, that gave him his pistol, is actually Stauffenburgs grandson. He was given that small part in the film.

Finally a movie where the hero gets shot in the arm and it affects him, instead of it just being a flesh wound and they fight on for another hour without bleeding to death or loss of movement.

To be honest, Fromm did all of them a favor by saving them from likely being "pulled apart like warm bread" by the SS.

unfortunately the real thing was General Beck did shoot himself in the head but it didn't work. a sergeant had to finish him off. but I get why they didn't show that

2:06 haunting foreshadowing, No One Will Be Spared, they die, the General dies, and then months later countless Army men and then Hitler dies.

At 0:19, I was almost in tears. You just know it's over, and he can't even raise a weapon to stop them anymore.

This is the actual room where this happened, as were a number of locations in the Bendlerblock for other events depicted. The room and various others are now a museum to the German Resistance, but the museum pieces were removed to shoot scenes.

Best moment of the movie. Absolutely bone chilling.

I really loved the part where they all turned to General Fromm and acted as if he was part of the plan in order to take him down as well haha. He was arrested and executed a year later so...

When Fromm went to gobbles to report his success in capturing and executing the traitors gobbles responded with "you were quick to dispose of your involvement in this" and fromm was executed

"No one will be spared"

General Fromm's expression was really impressive, he knows that the German Reich is at the brink of destruction and an allied/soviet held Germany would see leadership and command eliminated.

Tom Cruise doesn't get enough credit for being a great actor. You can almost feel the weight of heartache and heartbreak delivered by his eyes in the exchange beginning at 0:24

fromm wanted to kill them in a futile attempt to hide his brief involvement in the plot

Most likely Fromm did this to silence those who could testify against him. However, some historians have raised the possibility that Fromm might have done this to spare his subordinates from the Gestapo torture. The reality is that nobody knowns for sure what were his intentions.

Seeing Kenneth Branagh playing the role of General Henning von Tresckow in this film and playing Reinhard Heydrich in Conspiracy shows what a great actor he is.

This scene is surprisingly accurate from a historical perspective. Fromm did refer to Stauffenberg as “the just like in this scene. There are a few minor differences though. For example, Stauffenberg pleaded to let the others go since it was his full responsibility, but he was ignored by Fromm. Also Stauffenberg was no longer using his eye patch. When Fromm asked whether anyone would want to write a letter, Olbritch responded that we wanted to write a letter to his wife, and Fromm allowed him to do so. Also when Beck held the gun he did say “I am thinking about past times”; however, Fromm interrupted him screaming “JUST DO IT” since he knew troops loyal to Hitler were about to arrive and he did not have much time. Beck shot himself but he only injured himself and was still alive. He tried a second time but was still alive. Then Fromm asked an officer to finish him off who refused to do so ordering a lower ranking militar to finish Beck.
