SAMs do not chase fighter jet, They intercept its. Most SAM have higher speed than aircraft.

The SAM here is radar guided, not a heat seaker. So it doesn't chase the fighter jet it intercepts it and the flares are useless here.

Apparently Chinese jet fighter pilots are trained to ignore the effects of gravity during high speed turns while trying to evade air defense missiles.

It's dramatic for the big screen but in real life these missiles will calculate lead of the aircraft and have a more than 80% chance of killing the aircraft at this range.

A: the SA-6 “kub” can only fire 1 missile at a time. B: the missiles are radar guided, flares won’t do shit. C: the fighter went behind multiple mountains, which would have broken the radar lock. D. The missile is much faster than a J-11 and would not chase the fighter like that.

I’ll never understand why directors keep using this ridiculous trope of missiles chasing planes. Especially when actual counter-Surface to Air Missile tactics are plenty exciting all on their own. Flight of the Intruder did a great job of depicting SAM’s much more accurately. A wide, establishing shot from the pilot’s viewpoint, showing the still-distant but obviously VERY fast-rising missile atop a ghostly white finger of smoke, reaching inexorably up towards the plane. Scary AF if shot right.

Those are not US Patriot missiles, those are SAM 6 Russian missiles.

The Sam was apparently heat seeking while using a radar to "intercept" a Chinese plane. They also used flares witch are used against HEAT SEEKING missiles against a radar guided missile.
