The Video Social Media Does not Want you to See About Disinformation

The code for the image tool is available here:

There are four ways social media could prevent disinformation:
#1. Vectorize images into a database and then search that database for matches whenever a new image is uploaded. Publish the date and context in which that image first appeared.
#2. Inspect images for copyright. Deny the posting if an image was not purchased or offer the opportunity to purchase the image.
#3. Truth score - Track the number of times a poster has been moderated.
#4. Cool down - Restrict the number of times a user can post or share content.

Free speech is important. This plan could be implemented with just a few sprints worth of programming work and still ensure that people have a voice.

"Way too violent", said no YouTube viewer.

I love how Ryan always look like he just woke up and started teaching

What in the heck?!?
I've watched your video almost as soon as you published it. There was NO MENTION of any violence in it. The demonetization was complete and total bovine manure.

Keep up the great work!

Help! Help, Ryan is being suppressed.
See the violence inherent in the system.

I think the video was mass reported by [Russian] bots and that is why it was taken down. I don't think it was Youtube itself. Means you did something well!

The truth score idea - if this is based on user feedback in any way, it would be pretty easy to manipulate it. If a state-run bot farm wants to inflate their own truth score or suppress that of a legitimate source, it would be pretty easy to do.

Limiting posts - this would definitely restrict bots, but if implemented poorly it could also crack down on legitimate highly-active accounts. Some teens can legitimately be very active at times, especially when interacting with each other. A business account responding to questions might also be legitimately highly active. Rather than a hard throttle, a high level of activity should instead draw scrutiny.

I am so glad I found your channel. Tell your dad that the next time he says he is disappointed in you.💖

What I like about Ryan is that he doesn't complain. He identifies a problem and provides unbiased solutions and proof with receipts.

I'm willing to bet everything that a troll reported his video for violence. There are many actors out there who want to shut his good, solid and factual information down.

I am so sick of Youtube filters stopping financial support of legitimate informative videos. I wish there was a better filtering system or just a better social media site. Unfortunately, Youtube has become a near monopoly of free to view sites.

Ryan, the elephant in the room is that social media companies have no interest in prohibiting people from uploading to their sites because that's how their business is supposed to make money. Granted they do that indirectly by injecting paid advertising into your feed based on an analysis of what subjects you find interesting. Any upload has a potential for making money so they let it happen. Notably where an outside agency identifies theft or incorrect use of copyrighted material and reports it to the social media company they act usually within hours of it being uploaded. Best example is music. Big music companies like Sony employ systems to identify copyrighted material and report it. If the social media company doesn't comply then they themselves are in breach of copyright and could be sued. If a private person like yourself is a victim of trolling and has their channel blocked or revenue denied the social media company react to complaints very slowly because the chances of a private individual filing to sue is minimal. One it costs too much and two, that could provide grounds for the uploader being banned from uploading henceforth and forever more.

Yep, these companies are crazy. Some would even say evil.

8:54 - Some serious Metal Gear Solid 2 vibes here. “We’re not controlling content. We’re creating context!”

My only problem with a "Truth Score" is someone could get a 100K or more of their followers to upvote a story that showed them in a good light or downvote a story that was against them. We're already seeing this happen when a YouTube creator gets their video taken down because 10 thousand followers filed complaints.

I watched this video yesterday and do not belive there's any way that it violated youtubes standards, whether or not your opinions shown are correct or if youtube as a company agrees with them. Thanks for continually jumping through hoops to get your ideas and good information out there, Ryan!

Hi Ryan, I just came from your substack video. You were definitely brigaded. When a video gets so many reports for violence YouTube automatically applies that tag and demonetizes.

People who don’t want you making these videos are just reporting you en masse. They can even use bots for it.

I know Demolitions Ranch has a guy at YouTube they talk to about issues with, maybe reach out to them and ask if you can speak to the same guy?

The problem with having a trustworthiness score is its either controlled by the social media company; and people will make Orwell comparisons, or its a popularity contest on the internet aka a bot voting contest.

I see two weapons in the back: a blue pistol next to the press helmet and the grey non-action figure on the right, so yeah, ultraviolence
