Microsoft’s new and (sort of) improved HoloLens

The HoloLens is amazing, except when it’s terrible. Here's our report after spending some time with HoloLens out in Seattle.

The important question is: does it work? This is just a prototype, the field of view can be extended in the consumer versions. But you are stupid if you thought, there would not be a limited field of view.

Why are we surprised that these videos of the Hololen are exaggerations, does everyone not remember the first video released for the 360's Kinect. Microsoft has a history of doing this.

This is not their final product, development is still being conducted. The reason they let you guys try it, is in order to obatin feedback and give you an insight into their project.

its the future.... Microsoft will own the operating system future. And it hanst even gotten started yet. Gen 0, this isn't even Gen 1. Theres 4 months until that

I feel like some people just don't really understand the challenges associated with making any product. Like.... yeah, I mean, this probably isn't the product we expect/want. It probably isn't the next big thing; it's not going to actually create and object and let you interact with a virtual world. That sort of technology isn't here yet, and it probably won't be for a while. No need to be SO critical. Like, sometimes you can't make super projects like this one because the technology doesn't exist! Engineers work with the same technology in ingenious ways to make new and better things. Computers and chips are just a bunch of circuits and electrical switches. There's not much we can do about that, Think about, Apple is among the richest companies (richer than many countries)  and all those resources are used to design a single computer. Making good products is really hard and requires revolutions in science, engineering, manufacturing, etc. No need to be so critical when a company - probably a single team of people - are experiments with the limits of current technology. It won't be the perfect experience. Innovation happens slowly, engineers are not magicians.

So your complaint regarding the interaction with the various projected items is that the HoloLens isn't somehow transforming them into real objects that you can actually touch? Yeah, that sounds reasonable...

I agree so much on this, it would be a problem if Microsoft did not show Hololens like what it wasn't. Seeing objects through a small screen at the center of you vision is nothing like seeing it around you, constantly there (even if it's real 3D and stuff). FOV needs to be improved a lot.
