1000% truth here. Hardest thing is to put the stupid ass phone away, but it is sooo much better to feel that pain than the pain of frustration with a shitty sleep schedule.

I usually just open YT and watch lectures about thermodynamics or physics related. 5 minutes later, I'm sleeping like a rock.

There's some peak irony of me watching this at like 4 am.

A consistent routine with an exercise regimen always helped me. I always suffered when I deviated from working out.

I think another big contributor to sleep issues that you could have touched on is "revenge bedtime procrastination", where if you feel like you haven't had enough time in your day for yourself, that you have had for self actualization, you start to resent bedtime as another thing "taking away" your day.

It’s also important to analyze your thoughts that keep you up. For instance

I usually think about relationships/family/friends
Or money/work. The last thing you definitely want to think about is “sleep” itself as that can lead to sleep anxiety.

I found that having thoughts about boring things/things that don’t really pertain to you at all to be the best for sleeping.

I'm going to start doing adult coloring books before bed instead of looking at the screen. I hope it will work.

Showering without music or eating a meal without youtube can help with staring at the ceiling lost in thought at night. Give yourself that nothing-time before you lay down.

Reading a book during the last hour and a half of my day helps me fall asleep right on time every day so I recommend it!

the one thing about avoiding high fat diets", for women this doesn't matter as much however for men the cholesterol we get from fats will process into testosterone, and the calories would be used as a very efficient form of energy. New studies prove that saturated fats are actually not that bad, and thus they're also stable and support our hearth health. Don't demonize fats guys, high quality fat diets are lifechanging, but you need to find what suits you the best.

I can't find the video where you talked about gluten sensitivity but that video changed my life to a degree i can't even comprehend. From 8 1/2 - 10 hours of sleep and feeling like crap wanting to a nap anytime to 5-7 feeling beyond perfect. I did therapy for years and years and it helped me alot but the final thing that needed to be fixed was to cut out gluten out of my diet. My Life quality is restored and damn there is some other symptoms that went away where i didn't even know those were symptoms, i thought thats just how i was. I hope you receive this message because damn the relief i am feeling is sooo HUUUGE and i really want to share that. I LOVE YOU!!!

I mean, I slept good and fell asleep phone in hand for years. I would play repetitive games like solitaire or text twist that make me think just enough about the game to not turn on the rest of my brain thoughts. Its not just the device; its how you use it. Relaxing vs stimulating.

Youtube shorts and various algorithms killed that for me, because now picking up phone is dopamine.

I'm saving this for later. My biggest reoccurring regret is never chasing after the quality sleep I know I could be getting AND DESERVE given my specific phisiology and sleep needs.

I can confirm this helps. I saw the original video right when I switched to night shift and realizing that I don't "Go to sleep" but instead *let* myself fall asleep was a game changer. And blackout curtains.
