What is ADHD Brain Freeze + Solutions & Executive Dysfunction

In this video I'm going to teach you how to break ADHD brain freeze.

ADHD brain freeze, is a symptom of the ADHD mind where you stare at a project, really wanting to begin, but you can't because your brain feels stuck. And it's similar to ADHD paralysis.

ADHD Brain Freeze is caused by the Executive Function system in the brain becoming overwhelmed and thus freezing like an overwhelmed computer.

Then that means the solutions need to be about minimizing internal mental strain by making the internal workings of the mind, external, make the mental physical.

I have a habit of learning something new and really digging into it. Then getting bored and moving on. Then when I come back to it 'x' amount of time later, I've forgotten most of what I had worked so hard to learn!

This is exactly why "Break it down into smaller steps" is *horrible* advice for me. 'Cause then I'm like, "Ok great. 1 task is now 1, 000 tasks." 😖

Add to that I've also been diagnosed with OCPD, so there's an extra layer of "everything has to be done the right/best way" and "let me plan everything before I start so I don't waste any time or energy" and it's absolutely crippling!

I like the visual of the guy using flash cards though. I can dump everything first, then organize priority/categories second because every item can be freely rearranged, unlike writing a long list on one sheet of paper (if that makes sense. I'm rambling now. 😅)

Anyway, good content! I'll keep an eye out for more!

Don't know why, but somehow I am incapable of getting things done..

YES. This helps remind me of why I don't get things done.
I have to make lists, and I haven't been doing that lately.

The problem I have is that anytime I do use an external documentation and free up that processing power, my mind immediately feels like I've forgotten all the things, and the extra processing power is rededicated instantly to try and reacquire that information. It's anxietizing and I still find myself overwhelmed. It doesn't matter how many tiny pieces the task is broken down into, it doesn't matter that I know full well that I can't lose the info I've written down. It is still damn near impossible to start. I've tried to address this with everything from CBT to hypnosis to CBD oil, nothing, I mean, nothing works, except one thing: anger. If I get angry at, say, politics, I can actually start. It has to be legit and intense anger or it doesn't work. Perpetual rage is really no way to conduct my day. I'm a 50 yr old woman with diabetes and high blood pressure, and it's not good for me, in mind, body, or soul to stay pissed off from 6 am to 10 pm day in, day out. If you have anything, anything whatsoever that will stand in for blistering hate and discontent, I BEG you to share it with me.

My ADHD didn't let me finish the video and somehow I had the motivation to type this comment 😂

Well made video! It all made sense and made some things clearer for me (but of course I haven't watched it entirely :D). I just wish I wasn't losing energy to fight my ADHD as I age. 😢

Anyway, you deserve more subs. 👍

Right on.That’s my brain. I love whiteboards - BIG whiteboards for projects. I also now use an app, iThoughts to get a layout of my projects. It isn’t perfect but it is more compatible with my brain than flowcharts or project management tools. It may not keep me on track in relation to time but it keeps my brain corralled for focusing on the project. I supplement it with other tools to keep me on schedule (kinda anyway 😂).

Yes, the reward trick has stopped working for me long time ago. The thought of doing something fun after I get done with a certain task that seems a like a burden is not exciting anymore.

Could you make a video where you address smoking addiction and possible ways to quit? Also, how to prevent falling for another addiction as an attempt to compensate from the previous one. Thanks a bunch :)

Do you recognize this? I start a routine with 2 tasks. It works. I get hope. I'm thinking about the next routine I should do or expand this one?
Than I get a call from my friends on a Saturday morning to go to the beach, which is great.
Two weeks later I remember I started a routine a few weeks ago. I forgot.

I really enjoyed this. I also like how you've set up your room the colors are calming and soft. On the part for distractions, can you do a video about maladaptive day dreaming. Even if I get everything going, as soon as i start to focus items from the actual task I'm doing seem to trigger my day dreaming.
