The worst part is even when you still have free time, you can’t enjoy it because you feel the pressure

The chanting "get up!" To yourself part is so real it hurts

It looks like lazy, feels like torture.

The fact that this is so common is comforting but also extremely alarming.

Watching a short about adhd paralysis while having it at the moment hits hard

This is me when I have free time. I spend 90% of the time arguing in my head about how to best spend my time, then it’s just gone.

One of the scary moments when the algorithm actually picks up what’s going on in my head

I've never related to a YouTube short so much. This is the worst feeling in the world. So much stress. I know I need to be doing things, but I just can't. I know I'll be so much less stressed if I just get up and finish things, but I struggle so much to actually get up and do things.

My favorite is when people say
1 make a list
2 don't procrastinate

The only thing missing is a frustrated scream of helplessness at the end 😢

Now add in a time limit. “You’ve got to take a shower, you only have an hour before you have to leave” “you have to stand up now, you only have 45 minutes and you have to eat, shower, and brush your teeth” “you ran out of time to shower at least stand and get something to eat” and then your alarm goes off and you have to skip food, speed run brushing your teeth, and end up arriving late despite having plenty of time

I found that turning my alerts off on my phone and using it for music that gets motivated helps sooo much. I turn the tv off too and do 1 task and then I get into a flow. Music has helped me alot

I made me feel better when a doctor told me the other day that is normal for people with ADHD to shutdown when they are over-stressed.

This exactly. The way I explained it to my doctor when I was diagnosed is that, for example, I’m ready to go to bed, but I know that before I can go to bed I need to wash my face, brush my teeth, go to the bathroom and take the dog out. I will be so overwhelmed with those simple tasks that I will sit on the couch for another hour or more past the time I’m ready to go to bed, because I physically cannot get myself to get up and go through the process of going to bed.

You're probably the only YouTuber that show the accurate representation of living with ADHD

Honestly think this is a SEVERELY underrated mental condition. The effects seems so “fun” and “quirky” to observers and then it’s annoying to them, but to people with it it will litterally RUIN your life.
It’s all fun and games till your repeatedly late to court because your brain is focused entirely on the wrong thing at the wrong times.

It feels good to know that I'm not the only one. My mom tells me that ADHD paralysis is just my attempt at making a different name for laziness as an excuse and her voice is added to the voices in my head like this and it just hurts. It makes it even harder for me to get up.

Either people with ADHD need to stop being so relatable or I need to go to the doctor

update: i went to the doctor

This is what a Freeze response, aka Dorsal Vagal Shutdown, looks like. It’s important to know this so one can begin to learn ways to gently come out of it. The freeze response is a response to feeling overwhelmed and stressed. It’s a natural response . I know because i go thru the same thing as this video. It is a dysregulated nervous system . Brain retraining programs like DNRS plus gentle somatic practices with in training zone have changed my life. Freeze response like the above is something i continue to work with. There is hope.

Remember kids: this is also a symptom of clinical stress or depression. "Getting your shit together" is for people who actually have the capacity, but just need the motivation. If you're genuinely depressed you don't have the capacity, and should start smaller. Pushing yourself under the wrong circumstances can worsen your condition.
